PRONUNCIATION AND LISTENING
Instructor: Sue Stevick
Recommended for high intermediate English learners.
Master the basics of American English pronunciation:
stress, rhythm and intonation; emphasize the contrast
between clear and reduced sounds. The instructor will assess
each student’s strengths and weaknesses, then provide a
written pronunciation profile to be used as the basis for
pronunciation practice during the course. Please purchase the
required textbook at the Adult School office before the first day of
class. Class size is limited to 18.

CONVERSATION CLUB: “The Last Lecture”
Instructor: Nikki Holt
Recommended for high intermediate to advanced English
learners.
Develop your vocabulary and conversation skills while
reading and discussing the brave and wonderful story of
college professor Randy Pausch, who wrote The Last Lecture
during the last months of his life. Enlightening and uplifting,
the book is a personal story that discusses his life and his
dreams and how he learned to live the best life he could.
There will be some fun activities to help improve your
English and develop your creativity as we explore Professor
Pausch’s full and meaningful life. The book The Last Lecture is
required and can be purchased online. Please bring it with you
to the first class.

ENGLISH THROUGH MOVIES
Instructor: Mitra Bahrami
Recommended for high intermediate to
advanced English learners.
This class offers a fun and engaging way to
learn about American history and culture.
By watching four great movies you get to
expand your vocabulary, improve your
listening skills and get more comfortable
talking in English. You will also get to meet
other international students, learn about
their cultures and exchange ideas with them
on a variety of subjects. Each quarter we cover
new movies, so feel free to repeat the class even if
you took it in the Fall.
