A MYSTERY meat dumper has been filling public bins in Wigram and Hornby with hundreds of kilograms of meat in recent weeks. The dumping comes as the city council reveals cleaning up fly-tipping from the city’s roadsides has cost more than $800,000 in the past six years. City councillor Andrei Moore said someone had thrown 670kg of meat in public bins in Wigram and Hornby. “We had 220 kilos on one occasion and 200 on another a couple of weeks afterwards,” he said. Hasselhoff was seen on Tuesday afternoon on High St, opposite the ONE NZ building, where he posed for a photo. He had a film crew with him. Hasselhoff has been in New Zealand filming a television show with Kiwi comedian Rhys Darby. The duo and their film crew were also spotted at Invercargill Airport last Sunday when they caught a flight to Stewart Island. “The Hoff” and Darby were there as part of an upcoming travel series and interviewed residents on the island. Thursday September 21 2023 The Star NEWS 3 In Brief Police investigate firearm incident Police are continuing to investigate after reports someone was pointing a gun at a member of the public in Aranui on Monday afternoon. Police responded to the incident on Pages Rd and were still searching for the people responsible. A police spokesperson said “at this stage (we) are unable to confirm the presence of a firearm.” School locked down after potential threat Haeata Community Campus was placed in lockdown after parents posed a potential threat on Monday afternoon. The police have trespassed three individuals who are not students at the Aranui school after an altercation escalated, said principal Peggy Burrows. “The procedure for lockdown was followed and at no stage were any children in danger and the matter was dealt with and all the processes were followed.” A police spokesperson said inquiries into the incident are ongoing and no charges had been laid at this time. Tsunami warning sirens to be tested The tsunami warning sirens will be tested at 11am on Sunday after the clocks move forward for daylight saving. The 45 sirens, located between Taylors Mistake and Brooklands, will sound for up to three minutes. The tsunami warning network is designed to forewarn residents about a tsunami which could take more than three hours to reach the coast. Climate activists target city council School Strike for Climate Ōtautahi activists staged a ‘fly-in’ protest on Monday demanding the city council retract its support for the proposed new international airport at Tarras, Central Otago.
