Blinds & Shutters - Issue 4/2023

As we reach the end of summer which has not been the greatest in terms of weather it will be interesting to see which way the wind is blowing in regard to the environment as the next general election approaches. I live close to London and the ULEZ extension has been on top of the agenda for many people. The statistics on London’s air quality are extremely worrying with the WHO saying that air pollution far exceeds limits. Do we ignore the evidence and continue to put lives at risk? I would imagine we would not like a polluting business near our home or place of work and it is impressive that blinds companies are stepping up and taking on board their environmental responsibilities. We are all aware that there is a cost involved, but it seems a small price to pay for a healthy future. John Hatcher editor

New motorised
blinds app that
puts customers in
control
With the increasing rise in smart home
technology Luxaflex has unveiled an
updated and improved app for use
with its motorised blinds product, PowerView
Automation.
The leading blinds manufacturer has recently
launched PowerView Automation Gen 3 in the UK,
adding a smarter touch to its popular electric blinds
product by focussing on a simplistic interface and
increased product reliability via Bluetooth
integration.
From opening and closing blinds, to setting repeat
operation schedules by room and syncing with a
location for enhanced benefits, the new app offers
even more choice and convenience for the customer.
A new feature in the update is the addition of
RemoteConnect technology, enabling homeowners
to adjust their blinds on a mobile device or tablet
when they are away.
Simon Browne, training manager at Luxaflex, adds:
“Our new PowerView app not only enhances the
customer experience with easy to use features, but
also offers benefits to our dealers as they can access
a customer’s blinds remotely to troubleshoot from
their showrooms as the first level of support, which is
often much quicker than arranging follow up home
visits.
“From managing the installation process to setting
up a customer’s room schedules in the app, our
expert dealers take care of everything before passing
the reins to homeowners giving them total control of
the light in their home.
“With the added benefit of RemoteConnect,
customers can instantly control their blind’s
movement or make changes to their pre-set
schedules when they are away from home, acting as
a security feature by making a home look occupied.
“As we get closer to winter motorised blinds can
help with energy-efficiency by keeping the heat in
and the cold out.
“By scheduling blinds to lower in the afternoon
you can retain the day’s heat gain, helping to have less
reliance on heating systems. You could even program
the app for blinds to lower a few minutes before the
heating comes on in the evening so the heat isn’t lost
through windows or doors.”
PowerViewAutomation is compatible with 90% of
products in the Luxaflex collection, including the
brand’s signature, Duette, Pirouette and Silhouette®
Shades. The product is suitable for a range of
windows and doors and is ideal for hard to reach
windows and skylights.
Alongside the app, PowerViewAutomation also
allows blinds to be operated by Pebble remote or
voice operation and customers can seamlessly switch
between the operation methods.
