Cricket club
celebrates
75 years

LINCOLN CRICKET Club will
acknowledge players past and
present at their 75th anniversary
celebrations on Friday night.
Event organiser Andrew Morris
said it will be a chance to launch
the season, recognise the new
senior team and also announce
the Lincoln all-time XI.
“The all-time XI has been
sourced through decades of scorebooks,
minute books, newspaper
cuttings to pull together the stats
that will help the selection committee
arrive at their team,” he
said.
Former captains Wal Scott and
Greg Hills will also share stories
from their time.
This season will be the first
in two years where the club has
fielded a men’s premier team.
They last featured in 2021/22.
Morris said the club is expected
to have a record number of junior
players registered for the season.
“So it’s sure to be another busy
year for the club.”

Samuelu takes senior gross
TALAGA SAMUELU claimed
the senior best gross title at the
Lincoln Golf Club’s annual
tournament on Sunday.
The Lincoln clubman shot a
112 over the 27-hole event, five
strokes better than second placed
Richard Weaver. Andy Hill (118)
was third.
The tournament attracted
more than 60 players from
throughout the South Island,
and Wellington.
Despite the challenging weather
conditions in the days leading
up to the tournament, the course
was in impeccable shape.
“That was due to the hard work
of greenskeeper Blair Burtonshaw.
His relentless efforts to
prepare the course after bouts
of rain on Friday and Saturday
were met with gratitude from
both players and organisers,” a
tournament spokesman said.
“Local Rotary club membersalso
stepped up to the plate,
ensuring that players were wellfed
throughout the afternoon
final round. Their dedication to
the event was greatly appreciated
by all and added to the sense of
community spirit that the Lincoln
Golf Club is known for.
“The tournament was a
resounding success, with
participants competing fiercely
in their respective categories.”
