Josh’s driving ambition
Many people moan about the time
young people spend on video games
or online gaming. However, one young
man from Springfield, Josh Henderson,
is looking to put those skills to good use.
Already utilising his knowledge of racing
and his aptitude for public speaking
gained from debating and speeches, at
only 16 years old, he is a commentator for
Euromarque Motorsport Park and South
Island Formula Ford. His big ambition is
to turn his virtual racing experience and
passion for motorsport into the real thing,
getting behind the wheel and racing on
the track.
As a typical 12-year-old, Josh enjoyed
playing games online, and sim racing
took his fancy. This gaming has prepared

him for racing by teaching him key skills,
including racecraft, controlling the car
properly, and how to race around other
people. Josh says the key is learning to
balance when and how to use the throttle
and brakes, the art of cornering and other
tricks of the trade. Now, he wants to put
these skills to the test on the track.
As Josh is starting from the ground
up, he is looking for sponsorship to get
him started, from purchasing a suitable
vehicle and the required racing gear.
With a serious attitude towards his racing
intentions, he has put together a proposal
for potential sponsors. Josh suggests it is
a way for sponsors to help out new talent
while providing plenty of publicity and
advertising opportunities.

Due to expenses and cost, Josh wants
to start with the 2K Cup South Island
class, the smartest and most logical step
to enter racing. Vehicles not ready to
race are valued under $2000 and are then
tuned to race specs, and anyone has an
equal chance of winning, from novices to
veterans.
Josh has the support of friends and
family in his motorsport endeavours.
He confirms, “Mum has been really
supportive from the beginning; she’s been
the one driving me to the track. ” Support
also comes from his friends. Josh’s best
mate has been successful in karting
and is looking to step up to racing cars,
while another good friend, Louis Sharp,
currently holds first place in the British
Formula 4 drivers’ championship.
Besides his friends’ achievements,
Josh has been motivated by driver
NASCAR Denny Hamlin. Josh states,“
I’ve supported him since watching
NASCAR and been addicted to it since.”
He’s inspired by Denny’s perseverance
and “never give up” attitude; even with
50 wins under his belt, he’s never won a
championship. Josh is keen to find his feet

footsteps of his favourite driver, Denny.
