IF THE Lyttelton Volunteer Fire Brigade
was to invite the prime minister to its
150th anniversary dinner today, knowing
who that would be is no sure bet.
That wasn’t an issue 50 years ago when
Prime Minister Norman Kirk was guest of
honour at the brigade’s centennial dinner.
The one and only time a sitting prime
minister has attended a fire brigade anniversary
function – now that’s a sure bet.
Greeting Kirk, affectionately known as
Big Norm, on that momentous evening in
1973 was Chief Fire Officer John Fogarty
and his wife Eileen. Getting the PM to the
dinner was a real measure of the esteem
in which the Lyttelton Volunteer Fire
Brigade was held.
Kirk did his own image no harm either,
being described by those who met him
that evening as a very nice man.
Big Norm drops in
This photo and many, many more will
feature in the 150th anniversary book
that’s printing as we speak. They can’t
guarantee a Prime Minister this Labour
Weekend but the Lyttelton Volunteer Fire
Brigade does promise a good time had by
all.
When Life Sucks
by Dr Jo Prendergast
The practical and effective how-to guide to parenting your
teen through tough times from an expert psychiatrist and
comedian for fans of Maggie Dent, Celia Lashlie and Nigel
Latta
A first-aid manual for supporting your teen’s mental health,
by psychiatrist and comedian Dr Jo Prendergast
When Life Sucks is an essential guide to supporting your teen’s
mental health. As a parent and psychiatrist, Dr Jo knows how hard it can be -
especially if a teen communicates only in eye rolls and grunts!
Covering everything from anxiety, depression, trauma and eating difficulties,
to understanding neurodivergence and gender identity, this book is a first-aid
manual for some of life’s toughest challenges. It’s not easy being a parent in a
world of TikTok and bubblegum-flavoured vapes, but When Life Sucks gives you
the practical tools to help make your life a little lighter and to support your teen
towards a healthy headspace.
Fearless - Uplift your life
THIS BOOK
Throughout my life, I have encountered fear and I know how much it has stopped me
in my tracks. I want every woman to be able to move forward, to feel empowered at
every stage of their lives.
This manual includes all the advice you might expect. Whether you need help with
how to dress, finding out the colours that suit you or understanding the right beauty
routine for the skin you have now, FEARLESS contains it all.
But the most important thing that I have come to know is that life is not just about
how we look – it’s about gaining the knowledge we need to navigate whatever life
throws at us. So, I’ve included a life section to share what I’ve learned along the way,
the everyday barriers that impact my confidence and how I feel. In each chapter I
set you a practical challenge, because there is a big difference between reading and
action – it is action that propels us and allows us to make positive change in your
own life. To represent the different ages, shapes, styles and attitudes I cover, the
inspiring Trinny Tribers from around the world have all come together to share too.
I very much hope this book will help and inspire you. I look forward to sharing this
new journey with you. We can all thrive and live fearlessly.
With practical fashion, beauty, health, and life advice, everyone will be able to
transform their self-confidence, to look and feel great in a holistic and inspiring, yet
achievable way.
