Did you know…<br />
1) Ellesmere A&P is one of the first<br />
shows of the season. Ellesmere A&P<br />
is excited to be part of a new series<br />
competition this year, in conjunction<br />
with Northern, Ashburton and NZ<br />
Agricultural Shows. This competition<br />
is a points-based series, designed to<br />
encourage competitors to enter all four<br />
Shows. The winners will be announced<br />
at the NZAG Show in Christchurch,<br />
November 15–17.<br />
2) An exciting feature this time round<br />
is that the <strong>Selwyn</strong> Heritage Park is<br />
holding an open day in conjunction with<br />
the Show. The entrance will be signposted<br />
through the Showgrounds only. The<br />
trust committee is thrilled to show the<br />
fascinating and thoughtfully created<br />
displays that have been put together by<br />
volunteers over the last 12 months. You<br />
will also be able to visit Carroll Cottage,<br />
with its charming plantings of herbs,<br />
catmint, lavender and geraniums, all<br />
old-fashioned plants that would have<br />
been around in 1900. Donations will be<br />
welcome.<br />
3) The vast variety of events and<br />
experiences at the Show means<br />
that there’s something to appeal to<br />
everybody. Check out the Wearable<br />
Arts competition, the BBQ competition<br />
called Smoke @ the Lake, the <strong>Selwyn</strong>’s<br />
Got Talent stage, fantastic hospitality and<br />
retail stalls and the large side-show alley.<br />
4) Essential info – it is cash only at<br />
the gate. There is an ATM at the BNZ<br />
on Leeston High Street, a two-minute<br />
drive or a 16-minute walk from the<br />
Showgrounds. Eftpos facilities will be<br />
available on the grounds.<br />
5) If you need to nip into Leeston,<br />
this is easily done via the tail-end of<br />
the Doyleston to Leeston walk/cycle<br />
path, which opened in 2020, and goes<br />
right past the Showgrounds. It is fully<br />
accessible.<br />
6) Although our eyes will all be on<br />
<strong>Selwyn</strong> on <strong>October</strong> 14, the rest of the<br />
country is having this little thing called,<br />
mmm what is it again, oh yes The<br />
General Election. If you need to vote<br />
on the day, your closest option to the<br />
Showgrounds is at Leeston Consolidated<br />
School, at 19 <strong>Selwyn</strong> Street. This is a twominute<br />
drive or a 14-minute walk from<br />
the Showgrounds. The polling booths will<br />
be open there from 9am to 7pm, and the<br />
building is fully accessible.<br />
