Wheel Throwing with<br />

Danny Sheu<br />

We will start this class with the fundamentals of<br />

wheel-thrown pottery. Beginning students will learn<br />

how to center clay and create basic forms, as well as<br />

trimming, finishing and glazing. Once the foundations<br />

are taught, students of all levels will learn from the<br />

instructor’s demonstrations and individualized guidance<br />

and assistance so that each student can develop their<br />

personal direction and style. This class is appropriate for<br />

beginners and advanced students.<br />

Firing and glazes included. Clay must be purchased<br />

at the Art Center ($25 per 25lb). Basic ceramic tool kit<br />

required (available at class for $15).<br />

Intermediate Wheel Projects with<br />

Miki Shim<br />

Work with Miki in this intermediate to advanced wheel<br />

class to continue your studio practice. Students will<br />

receive hands-on instruction to develop individualized<br />

expression of form and design, fine-tune their throwing<br />

skills and expand their knowledge of ceramics processes.<br />

Projects will include functional and decorative<br />

vessels thrown on the wheel and will include altered<br />

forms and combine hand-built elements. Independent<br />

projects ideas are welcome and will receive instruction<br />

as needed.<br />

This is an intermediate and advanced level class. Prior<br />

wheel sessions required. Students must be able to center<br />

and pull even walls.<br />

The Art Center main lobby doors are locked at 6 p.m. on<br />

Mondays. Upon registration you will receive the PAAC<br />

Studio Entrance Map PDF for studio access directions<br />

when our main lobby is closed.<br />

Hand Building with<br />

Hsin-Chuen Lin<br />

This course focuses on hand building. Hsin will demonstrate<br />

and teach one project per week based on slab<br />

build techniques. We are making Sushi plates, pencil<br />

holders, Ikebana vessels, pitchers, and baskets, with<br />

additional attention given to texture and sgraffito<br />

decoration. Advanced students will learn from instructor<br />

demonstrations and will receive individual attention on<br />

independent projects.<br />
