America’s Pinelands National Reserve The first step to understanding the maritime cultural landscapes of the Pinelands National Reserve is to consider how Pinelands watersheds relate to the surrounding regional area. Pinelands National Reserve (PNR) encompasses over one-million acres of farms, forests and wetlands. PNR is classified as a United States Biosphere Reserve. In 1978 PNR was established as the United States first National Reserve. Delaware River Delaware River Ports Delaware River Mount Holly Pinelands National Reserve Atlantic Ocean Atlantic Ocean PNR waters drains West into the Delaware River tidal estuary via the tidal segment of the Rancocas Creek and West Jersey tidal waterways.
