Raised platforms to be installed
as part of thoroughfare upgrade

other safety improvements we
spoke to the community about
last year to get it all done
in one hit and make sure
the roadworks finish as
quickly as possible.”
Kerb buildouts
will be introduced at
Ethne St, Nancy Ave
and Kensington Ave
intersections, and a
central island will be
installed at Thames St.
The existing central island at
Philpotts St will be replaced.
These changes will make it
easier for people to cross the

side roads.
Raised platforms will be
installed at existing zebra
crossings at Mairehau Primary
School and St Francis of Assisi
School, while stop signs will be
introduced at Thames St,
Philpotts Rd, Nancy Ave
and Ethne St to improve
drivers’ visibility of
pedestrians and cyclists.
“This section of Innes
Rd has about 15,000
vehicles travelling down
it each day so this work
will not only improve the
worn-out road but also
help make it safer for everyone,
particularly for students heading
to and from the nearby schools,”

Jaspreet a lot.
“We are both very proud and
excited and I cannot put into
words the feeling the moment
Ayzal came into the world. A
most joyous occasion.”
Both parents said it was a
struggle to find a unique and
different name with so many
other good names were out there.

spiritual, so when we chose this
name, it was perfect,” said Singh,
who works for SolarZero as a
business development manager.
Kaur and Singh met in India in
40 years
combined
experience
2009 and said it was “instant love
at first sight”.
“We fit together well. It was
only difficult when I immigrated
to New Zealand in 2014, leaving
Jaspreet behind. In 2017, we got
married and held our wedding in
India,” said Singh.
“We were planning for Jaspreet

few years ago, but she had to
stay in India due to Covid and
immigration restrictions.”
Kaur moved to Christchurch
permanently in January last year.
Singh said while having the
city’s first baby in 2024 was
unexpected, they were very happy.
