Florida has plenty of busy beach towns. But
if you prefer a laid-back coastal vacation
where you can experience nature on two
feet or two wheels, consider the five-community-strong
area of New Smyrna Beach,
just an hour’s drive from Orlando. Thanks to
significant efforts from cycling advocates,
this area of Florida is a bike rider’s dream,
with as many paved and natural trails as
beautiful beaches. But even without a helmet
and two wheels, New Smyrna Beach’s
courses, many wheelchair accessible, invite
every visitor to opt outside.
The NSB Outdoor Trail is a great place to
start to get a lay of the land. The fifty miles
of paths and elevated boardwalks overlook
dunes, allowing pedestrians to enjoy eight
stops along the way. Rest or enjoy a picnic
at Grayce K. Barck North Beach Community
Park, a stunning natural beachfront property.
Alternatively, get a hands-on look at the
Indian River Lagoon’s ecological diversity
by stopping at the Marine Discovery Center
during your excursion.
E-bike enthusiasts will also find a warm
welcome in the New Smyrna Beach Area.
Electric bikes are ideal for tooling around the
coastal community. But if you’re hunting for
