Scottish Golf also came to visit as we hosted the
Scottish Amateur Championship for the fourth
time in our history. Cameron Adam from Royal
Burgess was the wire to wire winner, setting out his
stall early in the qualifying rounds with a new
course record of 63 on the Championship Course
and the repeating the feat at Tain the next day. He
was never headed in the matchplay and won the
final 5&3. All our previous winners – Dean
Robertson (1993), Steven O’Hara (2000) and
Grant Forrest (2012) have gone onto successful
professional careers so we will watch Cameron’s
progress with interest.
All these events have meant we need a new
honours board to list them all and so a second one
has been made and both are now on the wall of
the landing of the main staircase. Please take a few
moments to stop and take in the many great
events, and champions, that Royal Dornoch has
produced.
The golfing exploits were not just from these major
events but the many that the club runs itself, one
of the main reasons we are here, so congratulations
to all our winners and especially our club
champions, Alan Murphy and Cara Thompson.
For Alan this is his first and for Cara her fifteenth
which shows that the course suits both the young
stars as well as the older campaigners!
Bob Grant, our new match and handicap
convenor, will report more fully on this year’s
events, as well as some comments on the world
handicap system.
Apart from a couple of weather incidents that
Wilma has noted in her report on the ladies and
the rather dreadful rain at the Captain’s Weekend
in October it was another full season of club
competitions and so the annual prize giving was
another glorious affair of celebrations. There were
some serial winners who collected several trophies,
a few old faces who always pick up something and
some new ones who we hope will be spurred on
for more next year. The full list was circulated in
the weekly newsletter and here is a photo of all the
happy people.
