NEXT STOP LIÈGE | In metamorphosis page - 29 Some of the transformations that are under way © Miysis © Ville de Liège - Maxime Flagothier 50 hectares of public space developed including more than 800 trees planted along its route The tram The tram is a response and a mobility solution that will redesign and transform the city along its route. © Miysis The arrival of the tram will : • Reduce traffic in the city centre and make it more pleasant for locals and visitors. Some streets will be pedestrianised; others will see the number of traffic lanes reduced. • Encourage motorists to leave their cars at the ends of the line to reach the centre, thanks to the park-and-ride, and thus reduce traffic levels. © Miysis • Renew 50 hectares of public space for pedestrians and cyclists. • Make the city more attractive, less congested and more peaceful. • Link numerous hubs, from Sclessin to Coronmeuse and Bressoux-Droixhe, passing through the historic heart of the Ardent City. © Miysis • It will be an essential factor enabling Liège and, more broadly, the Liège region, to permanently join the club of European cities in transition.
NEXT STOP LIÈGE | In metamorphosis page - 30 The Coronmeuse eco-district The development of the Coronmeuse site will take full advantage of the arrival of the tram with it being one of the final stops. Its unique overall design and the housing types developed there will enable Coronmeuse to develop in full complementarity with other major property developments in Liège. The site will comprise : • 1,325 HQE housing units (low and passive energy). One of the essential characteristics of the project lies in the diversity of its housing types. • Personal services : hotel, assisted living facilities, nursing and care homes, nurseries, community centre, urban vegetable gardens, bicycle repair workshop, etc. • The 4-hectare Astrid park will be fully renovated and will be extended with sports facilities and children’s playgrounds. • The Grand Palais (surface area of 5,000 sqm and over 50 m high) will have its façade and roof fully renovated. © Ville de Liège - Maxime Flagothier 25 hectares of renovations, 1,325 dwellings and new links with neighbourhoods thanks to the ‘Footbridge of Reflections’ inaugurated recently © Neo Legia SA
