Recital Showcase in CW
The Otterbein University Department of
Music will present its hird annual Recital
Showcase on March 17 at 3 p.m. at Hope
United Methodist Church 83 E. Columbus
St., Canal Winchester. The free event features
a varied program of classical music
including works for voice, cello, piano, and
saxophone. For information call 614-837-

Safe Exchange Zone
The Groveport Police Department, 5690
Clyde Moore Drive, in Groveport. has created
an area in its parking lot to give residents
and visitors a safe location to conduct
child custody exchanges, property
exchanges, or a safe area to meet someone
that you may not be familiar with and/or
feel unsafe around in private. The “Safe
Exchange Zone” gives individuals an area
where they are being recorded with video
surveillance cameras located on the police
department building, just in case something
should happen during the exchange
period between individuals.
This area is marked with a sign on the
southeast part of the building that has multiple
security cameras monitoring the parking
lot 24 hours a day.
There is also a Call Box located by the
front entrance doors. This call box will dial
a designated phone number inside the
police department when the button on the
box is pushed and, if an officer is not at the
police department during this initial call,
the call box will immediately send the call
to Franklin County Sheriff’s Department to
notify the police dispatchers of the need for
a Groveport Police officer at the police
department. Residents and visitors in the
city of Groveport should feel free to contact
the police department when the need arises,

Township Police report
According to the Madison Township
Police, during February officers responded
to 226 dispatched calls and logged 153,518
patrol miles. MTPD officers impounded 20
vehicles and used 1,583 gallons of fuel. In
addition, six OVI arrests were made, two in
Blacklick Estates, two in Canal Winchester
city limits, one near the Marwick Addition,
and one outside Madison Township limits.
To date, in 2024, Madison Township officers
have arrested ten impaired drivers.
Special Olympics
The Groveport Special Olympics chapter
provides year round sports training and
competition in a variety of Olympic type
sports for intellectually disabled individuals.

A request for a zoning change regarding
the proposed construction of a 212,000
square foot cold storage facility in
Groveport that was recently withdrawn by
the applicant has reappeared before
Groveport City Council
The property, which is currently zoned
rural, is located on 18.6 acres on the north
side of Groveport Road just west of
Saltzgaber Road.
The proposed development also includes
a smaller parcel that could be marketed for
retail use.
A representative for the developers told
Groveport City Council last October that
the proposed development could be a $42
At Wagnalls Library
The following events will be held at

•March 9 at 1 pm: Come for a lesson in
UFOlogy with Chris Frantz. Would you
like to know what has happened in the last
several years to bring reliable, credible
data regarding UFOs and non-human
intelligence into the forefront of public
awareness? This event is free and will be in
the auditorium. No pre-registration is
required.
•Lithopolis Easter Egg Hunt, March 30:
The Wagnalls Memorial will partner with
the Lithopolis United Methodist Church
and Bloom Baptist Church to host
Lithopolis’ egg hunt from 10 am to noon.
Children will be invited to fill an egg carton
with eggs on the front lawn at their
own pace and skill to receive a prize. Inside
the library there will be refreshments,
story times, and crafts. The Easter Bunny
will make an appearance and take selfies.
Donations of non-perishable food items are
being collected for Blessing Boxes around
central Ohio. A special sensory-friendly
egg hunt is available with pre-registration
by calling the Wagnalls Memorial Library
at 614-837-4765 x118.
Cruisers on the air
The Groveport Sports Network will provide
live play-by-play coverage of
Groveport Madison High School softball in
2024. Rick Cooper is in his 32nd season as
a play-by-play announcer and his 12th at
Groveport Madison High School.
The broadcast coverage includes high
definition video as well as live audio. Each
broadcast begins 25 minutes prior to the
scheduled start time with the pre-game
show.
The pre-game show features interviews
with the head coach, a detailed scouting
report of the opponent, the starting lineups,
and more.
After the game there are interviews
with players and the head coach, along
with a look at the final stats. The free
million investment in land and the facility.
He said the facility could bring 100 jobs to
the area and generate a possible $166,000
per year in income tax revenue for the city
of Groveport. He said the facility could
handle items such as food, pharmaceuticals,
cosmetics, and nutritional products. It
would use freon as its cooling agent.
At council’s Feb. 26 meeting, Groveport
resident Joellen Stebelton said she opposed
the proposed development.
“We have enough warehouses already
and we also have a goose problem from too
many retention ponds (from such developments),”
said Stebelton.
Council will consider the rezoning
request further at future meetings.

Golden Cruiser Club
Groveport Madison Schools invites senior
residents of the district to attend athletic
and performing arts programs showcasing
the talents of its students. The
Golden Cruiser Club is a free program for
residents of the Groveport Madison School
District who are age 60 and older.
Membership provides free access to all
school and district sponsored athletic contests,
plays, concerts, and other events.
To become a member of the Golden
Cruiser Club, obtain an application at
www.gocruisers.org, at any of the school
offices, or call (614) 492-2520.
The requirements for membership are
that applicants be age 60 or older and be a
resident of Groveport Madison Schools.
