Gas and electric aggregation shows reduction in bills

Madison Township residents enrolled in
a voter-approved aggregation program will
see a reduction in their utility bill–an
average of $16 a month–following action
taken by the township trustees at their
Feb. 26 meeting.
The trustees approved new rate resolutions
for electricity and gas starting with
April billing, which is before the current
agreement ends, due to favorable conditions.
“The market right now is in a pretty
good place to extend your agreement,” said
Trebel LLC representative Erin

The township’s current participation
rate, based on eligibility, is 87 percent electric
and 89 percent gas. As in the past, only
those serviced by AEP or Columbia Gas are
eligible for the aggregation program.
Separate opt-out letters for the gas and
electric aggregation program participation
will be sent out on March 8 to all eligible
township residents, as required by the
PUCO. All opt-outs received by March 29
will be processed before the April billing.
However, residents may join or leave
the program at any time without penalty
from the supplier. Budget billing is also
available.

The rate for electric aggregation with
Archer Energy for May 31, 2024, through
May 31, 2025, is fixed at $0.06649 per
kWh.
“This is about as low as we’ve seen since
COVID times,” said Madison Township
Administrator Susan Brobst.

•Township trustees are asking for citizen
input as they consider a program with
SWACO to obtain new 65-gallon recycling
toters for residents in Madison Township
at no cost to residents through a grant program.
“The township will obtain the toters,”
said Brobst. “SWACO will help with getting
everything ordered and take care of
helping to distribute them.”
SWACO is also assisting with the costs
of a third-party vendor helping with the
rollout and education of the new program.
Residents who do not want to receive a
new toter can opt out. However, no recycled
items will be picked up on trash day without
the new recycle toter at the curb. The
existing green recycling bins will be discontinued.
Residents are asked to provide feedback
and comments no later than March 22. The
survey can be found under the Important
Information tab at www.madisontownship.org.
“SWACO is asking for a decision by the
March meeting,” said Brobst, who said over
400 green recycle bins are currently in use
by residents. “They have to have a minimum
order to make this work.”
•Public Works Superintendent Dave
Watkins said the township’s application for
street improvements through the Ohio
Public Works Commission received funding.
The County Engineer’s Office will assist
in the bid process for improving the following
streets: Glenfield, Bonita Place, Bixby
Road just west of Ebright, and intersection
improvements at Harbor and Tremaine
near Asbury Elementary School.
The board also approved a resolution to
participate in the county engineer’s 2024
resurfacing program. Specific streets will
be determined in the next two months.
Total Eclipse Party
The city of Groveport will host a Total
Eclipse Party on April 8 from 2-3:30 p.m.
at KidSpace, 630 Wirt Road, Groveport.
