rush era of the 1860s, Clyde exudes a
palpable sense of heritage.
Entering Clyde, you will be greeted by
a Kārearea sculpture. The recycled
steel falcon, made from an original
Central Otago station and farm fences
by Glenorchy sculpturist, Dan Kelly. It
was opened last October to mark the
gateway to Clyde. The Kārearea (New
Zealand falcon) is five and a half metres
wide and five metres high.
Strolling through the streets of
Clyde, you can admire well-preserved
Victorian architecture and quaint
cottages, offering a glimpse into the
town’s past. The iconic Clyde Dam,
a testament to modern engineering,
stands proudly as a symbol of progress
while harmonising with the natural
surroundings.
Beyond its historical charm, Clyde
boasts an array of outdoor adventures
and recreational activities. The nearby
Clutha River provides opportunities for
kayaking, fishing, and walks along its
tranquil banks. While the surrounding
hills offer excellent hiking and biking
trails, rewarding adventurers with
panoramic views of the rugged Central
Otago landscape.
and the arts, Clyde offers a vibrant
scene enriched by local artisans
and galleries. Visitors can immerse
themselves in the region’s creative
spirit through exhibitions, workshops,
and festivals celebrating the area’s
diverse talent.
