With thousands of different franchises available today, it’s hard to know which are potentially<br />

good investments, and which should be avoided. There are many factors to consider when<br />

investing in a franchise, but one of the most important is the satisfaction of current<br />

Each year, we survey thousands of franchise owners to find the companies that are truly<br />

the best of the best. We ask the questions everyone wants to know:<br />

• Do you enjoy operating the business?<br />

• Are you getting the training and support you need?<br />

• Are you making the money you expected?<br />

• And most important... Would you recommend this franchise to others?<br />

HOW WE SELECT THE TOP FRANCHISES<br />

STEP 1: Invite<br />

We invite all franchise companies based in North America<br />

with 10 or more franchise owners to participate in our<br />

research at no cost.<br />

STEP 2: Survey<br />

We contact all franchisees in the franchise companies<br />

that choose to participate and invite them to answer a<br />

33-question satisfaction survey covering eight key areas,<br />

including: financial opportunity, training & support,<br />

leadership, and core values.<br />

STEP 4: Score<br />

The FSI score is used to benchmark each company’s<br />

franchisee satisfaction level against over 1,100<br />

franchise brands representing tens of thousands<br />

of franchisees and determine their ranking<br />

among other participating companies.<br />

STEP 5: Award<br />

We identify the brands that exceed<br />

the benchmark and recognize them<br />

with a Top <strong>Franchise</strong> award.<br />

STEP 3: Analyze<br />

We analyze the responses from the franchisees and<br />

use a weighted scale to determine an overall <strong>Franchise</strong>e<br />

Satisfaction Index (FSI) score that ranges from 0-100. Other<br />

factors considered in the weighting are the percentage of<br />

franchisees that participate in the survey, the age of the<br />

survey and the size of the franchise system.<br />

Our father, Don Senior, has intrinsic<br />

semi-urban markets. We directly reflect the<br />

needs of those markets and deliver light<br />

industrial, clerical, and professional staffing<br />

assisting manufacturing, production, and<br />

your due diligence?<br />

Don Senior spoke with owners in<br />

Pennsylvania, and he went to Ft. Lauderdale,<br />

In today’s world, there are two things that<br />

an organization our size gets from our<br />

excellent marketing material and information.<br />

We also enjoy the franchisee network and<br />

sharing best practices with other Spherion<br />

owners nationwide.<br />

What are you most proud of and why?<br />

We are proud to have grown into one of the<br />

country’s largest and most successful staffing<br />

and recruiting franchises. We don’t live or do<br />

business in economically hot regions of the<br />

country. Yet we’ve been able to thrive and<br />

grow without having the “low-hanging fruit”<br />

of new potential customers moving into our<br />

markets while consistently enduring longtime<br />

customers leaving our markets for other<br />

parts of the country.<br />

What advice would you give to new<br />

or potential franchise buyers?<br />

If you have never owned and operated your<br />

own business, know that to be successful,<br />

you will have to work harder, longer, and<br />

more intelligently than you have ever<br />

worked. That is the only promise I provide to<br />

employees. The rest has to do with potential.<br />

Of your prior skills and experiences,<br />

When Aaron Bontrager launched his<br />

business as a new Payroll Vault franchisee,<br />

he realized he had some challenges<br />

asking for the sale and contacted the<br />

I had been an employee for 12 years in the<br />

real estate industry as well as an independent<br />

contractor for 23 years. I had too many ideas<br />

you have to help the agents be successful to run<br />

a successful brokerage. JPAR believes that as well.<br />

What are you most proud of and why?<br />

I’m a firm believer that this industry should be<br />

professional. My legacy is to have a brokerage<br />

that is known for its professionalism. When<br />

speaking to a future partner about a joint<br />

venture, their response was that we (JPAR<br />

Professionals) are already known as being great<br />

to work with even though we’ve been business<br />

just a little over a year. Building this culture is a<br />

huge point of pride for me.<br />

What advice would you give to new or potential<br />

franchise buyers?<br />

Don’t be afraid to ask a lot of questions. If you<br />

don’t get answers, ask more people. Be really<br />

sure what your culture is that you want to build<br />

and make sure that you only hire those that will<br />

add to that culture and not poison it.<br />
