Letter from the founder
IN SEARCH OF THE HARDEST, MOST
SATISFYING “JOB” YOU’LL EVER HAVE
There’s a common theme in the feedback we receive from new franchise
owners. Many say, “This is the hardest job I’ve ever had, but it’s
also the most satisfying work I’ve ever done.”
We get it! Business ownership is not for everyone. It takes a lot of hard
work, discipline, and perseverance. But there’s also freedom and
fulfillment in being your own boss and calling the shots. The beauty of
franchise ownership over going it alone is that you are provided
training, support, and a proven business model. You can leverage a
recognized and established brand. You’re not starting from scratch.
You’re becoming part of a strategically growing system.
It also takes a lot of time and effort to find the franchise company
that is a good fit for you among the thousands of brands. The exploration
process can seem daunting—but it doesn’t have to be.
We crunch the data from tens of thousands of franchise owners—
the true experts—to help you weed through the ads, promos, and
promises and get to the real data. Our Franchisee Satisfaction Reports
not only help franchise brands analyze and improve performance
objectives but also provide the insights you need to make an informed
investment decision.
In this Franchise Buyer’s Guide, we are pleased to present FBR’s
Top Food Franchises and Culture100 award winners. We also spotlight
Franchise Rock Stars who have gone “above and beyond” in operating
successful franchise businesses in the past year.
We invite you to conduct your due diligence by exploring the best
of the best in our lists of the top award-winning brands. You can find
THE TASTY REWARDS OF
OWNING A FOOD FRANCHISE
How award-winning brands deliver franchisee satisfaction
Owning a food franchise can be
lucrative and rewarding, providing
entrepreneurs numerous advantages
in the competitive food industry. Let’s explore
the enticing benefits of investing in a food
franchise, from leveraging brand recognition
to tapping into proven business models.
1. BRAND RECOGNITION
Established franchises have spent years
building their reputation and brand equity.
They have a built-in customer base, as their
names and logos are instantly recognizable.
As a franchise owner, you can tap into the
existing brand equity and leverage customers’
trust and familiarity with the franchise name.
This significantly reduces the time and effort
typically required to establish an independent,
new brand and attract customers.
2. PROVEN BUSINESS MODEL
Ask a successful franchisee their secret, and
they’ll say, ‘Follow the business model.’ When
you invest in a food franchise, you gain access
to proven processes and systems that have
been through trial and error and fine-tuned
over time. Franchisors provide comprehensive
training and support, sharing their success
strategies and operational procedures. This
eliminates the guesswork and provides owners
with a roadmap for success.
3. RECESSION-RESISTANCE
The food industry is known for its resilience
during economic downturns. People still need
to eat—and enjoy dining out—even during
FBR INSIDER INSIGHTS
FEATURED FRANCHISEE
FBR asked 10,502 food franchise owners
33 benchmark questions about their franchisor.
91% said they enjoy being part of
their franchise organization.
challenging economic times. By providing
reasonably priced meals and quick-service
options, food franchises can weather economic
storms better than other industries, making
them an attractive investment opportunity.
Additionally, many franchises have adapted to
changing consumer habits, offering innovative
drive-through solutions, curbside takeout,
delivery, online ordering services, and more.
4. CONSUMER DEMAND
The demand for convenient and quality food
options is a constant in today’s fast-paced
society. Whether it’s a mobile food truck, fastcasual
dining, healthier options, or specialized
cuisines, franchises have become adept at
catering to various consumer preferences.
Franchises often conduct extensive market
research, identifying target demographics
and consumer preferences. This knowledge
allows franchisees to tap into existing demand
and serve their customers with products and
services that have already been proven to
appeal to the market.
5. EMERGING TRENDS
Food franchises are well-positioned to capitalize
on emerging trends. Franchisors invest
in research and development to identify
and capitalize on market opportunities. As
consumer preferences evolve, franchises can
adapt their menus, introduce new ingredients,
or experiment with innovative concepts such
as plant-based options, sustainability, and
technology-driven ordering systems. This
enables franchisees to adopt changing preferences
and appeal to a broader customer base
in the ever-changing food landscape.
OUR 2023 TOP FOOD FRANCHISES LIST
Eric Stites, founder and CEO of Franchise Business
Review, said, “Franchise owners are often
better positioned to weather a setback—even
during a recession—over small, independent,
mom-and-pop businesses because owners can
draw on the support, leadership, and brand
recognition of a large franchise organization
and a network of fellow franchisees.”
“The award-winning food brands that made
our 2023 Top Food Franchises List outrank
their competitors in owner satisfaction and
provide their franchise owners a higher return
on investment. These brands stand stronger
today because of their devotion to franchisee
satisfaction. That’s really the big advantage of
being part of a strong franchise—having that
reliable support system behind you through
challenges and triumphs.”
For this year’s research, Franchise Business
Review asked 10,502 food franchise owners 33
benchmark questions about their franchisor.
The survey questions focused on leadership,
training, support, financial opportunity, core
values, lifestyle, and overall enjoyment of running
their franchise. 91% of the food franchise
owners we surveyed say they enjoy being part
of their franchise organization. And four out
of five owners would recommend their franchise
to others. Half of the franchise owners
surveyed are multi-unit owners, and 60% plan
to purchase and open additional locations.
Of the award-winning food franchises on
our list, the average investment levels range
from $170K to $4.7M, with a median total
investment of $550K and a startup capital
requirement of $200K.
Purchasing a food franchise requires an
investment in time and money, but it can
deliver a wide range of delicious, long-term
rewards. If you want to pursue franchise ownership,
this year’s Top Food Franchises List is
a great place to start.
BEN IDHE
Wild Birds Unlimited
Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio
Franchise owner since 2021
5 Employees
Long before he became a Wild Birds Unlimited
franchisee, Ben Idhe was a regular customer of
the retail franchise. As a successful businessman
who loved communing with nature and birding—
making the leap into franchise ownership proved
to be a natural fit.
“I thought I could stay in the corporate
world until I realized I really needed flexibility
and to be my own boss. I didn’t want to start
from the ground up, and that’s why franchising
was attractive. Wild Birds Unlimited had the
territories, infrastructure, proven business model,
training, and support I needed. I felt I could really
hit the ground running even though I was not
completely familiar with the industry.”
“Wild Birds Unlimited has a great training
program for new owners around product and
their general way to go to market. They also have
dedicated marketing staff and technical staff.
We also really leaned on our business coach the
franchise provided as well as technical folks to
get the POS infrastructure up to date.”
Ben takes pride in the way he and his wife
transitioned from their previous careers to follow
their passion. “It is very challenging and honestly,
terrifying to walk away from something you did
for 25 years and just start fresh. We saw a link
that said, ‘Learn more about owning a Wild Birds
Unlimited franchise’ and we thought, ‘Let’s check
it out!’ Now we’re already looking to grow past
our current location. With goals, dedication, and
hard work, I really do believe you can accomplish
almost anything!”
TOP PERFORMER
Gary Lafreniere
A PLACE AT HOME, NORTH CHELMSFORD, MASSACHUSETTS
Gary Lafreniere chose A Place At Home because they don’t see franchisees as mere
numbers but rather as capable individuals with something special to offer the
communities they serve. “I knew the corporate group cared about our success as a
business and us as people.”
Gary’s mentorship with other A Place At Home franchisees has been invaluable.
He is always willing to share his insights and experience to help others succeed.
“I know we can always do more. We are building a strong foundation as a local care
provider here in our community. The more we grow means the more people we are
helping and that is all me and my team need for motivation.”
Cathy Trlica
CARING SENIOR SERVICE, NEW BRAUNFELS, TEXAS
“I joined Caring Senior Service in its early beginnings as a franchise. In my former career,
I was very process-oriented and felt confident that I could use the franchise’s tools to
implement the processes required. The policy and procedure manual, operations manual,
and in-person training covered everything needed to meet state regulations, market the
A third-generation mechanic and secondgeneration
franchise owner, Andrew Slemp
personifies what it means to own a Christian
Brothers Automotive franchise. “Not only do they
provide excellent support and coaching, but also
a solid family and faith-based environment.”
In conjunction with his local church, Andrew
initiated a nonprofit organization called
Mechanics on a Mission—a program that
matches those in need with critically needed
auto repairs—all at no charge. They also host a
series of classes in partnership with the Youth in
Christ organization to provide basic car care and
maintenance classes for teen mothers.
Andrew and his team also find vehicles that
can be fixed up and donated. In 2022, they
donated five cars. This year, they’re on track to
donate seven more. “Ten years ago, we donated a
car to a young lady getting out of a bad situation.
A few months ago, she came back in and donated
a car for us to give to someone else. Another time
we gifted a car to a single mother whose own
car was in rough shape. She gave us her car to
salvage, and we were able to fix it up and give it
to a man who was just getting out of prison (after
40 years). He had begun mentoring troubled
youth but had no way to get to the meetings
for his organization. Today, he continues to lead
youth in the Nashville community.”
“The most rewarding aspect of owning my
to lead the future as they find their own paths
in life.”
FRANCHISEE
SATISFACTION MATTERS
With thousands of different franchises available today, it’s hard to know which are potentially
good investments, and which should be avoided. There are many factors to consider when
investing in a franchise, but one of the most important is the satisfaction of current
franchise owners.
Each year, we survey thousands of franchise owners to find the companies that are truly
the best of the best. We ask the questions everyone wants to know:
• Do you enjoy operating the business?
• Are you getting the training and support you need?
• Are you making the money you expected?
• And most important... Would you recommend this franchise to others?
HOW WE SELECT THE TOP FRANCHISES
STEP 1: Invite
We invite all franchise companies based in North America
with 10 or more franchise owners to participate in our
research at no cost.
STEP 2: Survey
We contact all franchisees in the franchise companies
that choose to participate and invite them to answer a
33-question satisfaction survey covering eight key areas,
including: financial opportunity, training & support,
leadership, and core values.
STEP 4: Score
The FSI score is used to benchmark each company’s
franchisee satisfaction level against over 1,100
franchise brands representing tens of thousands
of franchisees and determine their ranking
among other participating companies.
STEP 5: Award
We identify the brands that exceed
the benchmark and recognize them
with a Top Franchise award.
STEP 3: Analyze
We analyze the responses from the franchisees and
use a weighted scale to determine an overall Franchisee
Satisfaction Index (FSI) score that ranges from 0-100. Other
factors considered in the weighting are the percentage of
franchisees that participate in the survey, the age of the
survey and the size of the franchise system.
FEATURED FRANCHISEE
Brock Wicker
Spherion Staffing & Recruiting
Louisville, KY and Jeffersonville, IN
Franchise owner since 2022 | 4 Employees
It’s safe to say that franchisee Brock
Wicker, is a people-person. After earning
a degree in business and marketing,
he toured the country as a Club A PGA
Golf Professional, which exposed him to
the opportunity to network and mentor
young assistants, interns, staff members,
shop attendants, and even caddies. His
mentoring experience would open the door
to a business opportunity with Spherion.
“I have always been interested in staffing.
Now, serving the Louisville community
by providing local business owners and
corporations with qualified staff members
while also assisting both Kentucky and
Indiana citizens with finding a job they enjoy
is a very humbling experience.”
“I always wanted to own my own business
and being able to do so in the state where
my wife and I were born and raised is a
dream come true. I chose the franchise
avenue because it is less of a risk for a new
business owner. Spherion offers excellent
customer service support, training programs,
a legal team, a designated SVP for every
franchisee, a workers’ compensation team,
safety teams, and more. They always have the
best interest of the franchisee in mind, which
was a big deciding factor in agreeing to
become a part of the Spherion team.” It was
a decision he didn’t take lightly, as he recalls
peppering Spherion’s VP of Development,
Bill Tasillo, with a rapid-fire procession of
questions. “I went through a new franchisee
orientation process and during this extensive
process, I asked Bill a multitude of questions
such as: What does your customer support
team look like? What are the costs associated
with royalties? What does it take to be a
successful owner? Can I hear from other
franchisees? What are the failure and success
rates for your franchisees within the past
20 years? What sets Spherion apart from
the other staffing companies? What does a
typical day look like for a new and seasoned
franchisee?”
In the end, Brock found Tasillo’s answers
to be more than reassuring—and he took
the business ownership plunge. He opened
his Louisville location in June of 2022, and
has since expanded to a second territory,
claiming the Jeffersonville, Indiana market in
January of 2023.
Though he may be in business for himself,
he never feels as if he’s in business by
himself. That’s a credit to the comprehensive
training and close-knit, ongoing support
he receives from his corporate partners at
Spherion. “Spherion’s support system is
fantastic. I don’t feel like I am by myself
because I have a business partner, but also a
designated senior vice president with years
of experience in staffing who assists us with
calls, leads, yearly budgets, achieving sales
goals, and answering questions. In addition,
Spherion hosts a national award ceremony
every spring. This is a formal event —one
where they do a great job recognizing your
successes within the company.”
Speaking of successes within the
company, Brock Wicker should know. In
2022, he won Spherion’s prestigious “Rookie
of the Year” award for his accomplishments
as one of their newest franchisees. You’d
think that might be his proudest moment
thus far in his early days as a franchise owner
in the Spherion system. But Brock Wicker
has a different take on the matter. “Being
recognized as 2022’s Rookie of the Year
at the Spherion National Meeting was an
incredible honor, but I would have to say that
I am most proud of the internal team I have
around me. Everyone has bought into our
customer service-focused, family-oriented
culture and is willing to go to great lengths
is a young man and a business owner
who’s already ahead of his time and
hungry for more.
What exactly does the future hold for
this young go-getter? “We aspire to expand
more into the state of Kentucky. Right now,
we have a big territory that consists of three
counties in Indiana and 13 in Kentucky. Our
short-term expansion goals are to have four
These office locations will all be near high
additional awards for performance on behalf
THE ESSENCE OF FRANCHISE
CULTURE: UNLOCKING
FRANCHISEE SATISFACTION
The union of franchisor and franchisee
Franchising is a popular business
model for myriad reasons. It provides
individuals with a turnkey solution
to entrepreneurship—complete with proven
systems and recognized brands. While
financial considerations and profitability
potential are crucial factors, the importance
of franchise culture and values cannot be
overlooked. In this article, we will explore the
significance of franchise culture in enhancing
franchisee satisfaction and the reasons why
potential franchise buyers should prioritize
alignment with a company’s culture and
values.
ESTABLISHING A COHESIVE BUSINESS
ENVIRONMENT
Franchise culture encompasses the core
beliefs, values, and behaviors that define a
franchisor’s identity. A strong and well-defined
culture fosters a cohesive business environment,
enabling franchisees to feel a sense of
belonging and purpose. When franchisees
resonate with the culture, they are more likely
to experience higher job satisfaction, leading
to increased motivation and dedication to the
franchise’s success.
SHARED VISION AND GOALS
Franchise culture plays a pivotal role in
establishing a shared vision and goals between
the franchisor and franchisee. When both
parties are aligned with the same mission and
purpose, they can work collaboratively toward
achieving common objectives. Franchisees
who share the same vision as the franchisor
are more likely to be invested in the long-term
success of the business, leading to increased
satisfaction and dedication.
CONSISTENCY IN BRAND EXPERIENCE
A strong franchise culture ensures consistency
in the brand experience across different locations.
Franchise buyers seeking to invest in a
particular brand often do so because they are
drawn to the brand’s values and the experience
it offers. When franchisees align with the franchise’s
culture, they are more likely to uphold
and deliver the brand experience consistently,
enhancing customer satisfaction and loyalty.
SUPPORTIVE NETWORK
AND RESOURCES
Franchise culture goes beyond values
and extends to the support and resources
provided by the franchisor. A positive culture
promotes an environment of collaboration,
open communication, and mutual support.
Franchisees who feel connected to the
franchisor and fellow franchisees are more
likely to seek and receive assistance, guidance,
and shared best practices. This support
network enhances franchisee satisfaction by
providing a sense of security and a safety net
when facing challenges.
ENHANCING WORK-LIFE BALANCE
A franchise culture that values work-life balance
can greatly impact franchisee satisfaction.
It is important for potential franchise buyers
to evaluate the franchisor’s stance on work-life
balance and determine if it aligns with their
personal values and goals. When a franchisor
prioritizes work-life balance, franchisees can
well-being.
franchisor’s culture, values, and support systems
to make an informed decision that aligns
with their vision of entrepreneurship.
LONG-TERM RELATIONSHIP BUILDING
Franchise culture is the foundation for building
long-term relationships between the franchisor
and franchisees. Franchisees who are
aligned with the culture are more likely to stay
committed to the franchise for an extended
period, reducing turnover rates. This continuity
allows the franchisor to develop trust,
provide ongoing support, and create a thriving
franchise network.
Franchise culture plays a vital role in
enhancing franchisee satisfaction. Potential
franchise buyers should consider alignment
with a company’s culture and values as a
critical factor when evaluating franchise
opportunities. By investing in a franchise that
resonates with their own beliefs and goals,
franchisees can enjoy a more fulfilling entrepreneurial
journey, increased motivation,
and long-term success. Aspiring franchisees
should thoroughly research and assess the
ALLISON KAPALKA
ANY LAB TEST NOW
Lititz, PA
Franchise owner since 2008
4 Employees
Before Allison Kapalka became an ANY LAB TEST
NOW franchise owner, she was a franchise sales
consultant for the very same brand. That’s how
she learned about the franchise opportunity.
She was especially impressed by the franchise’s
unique business model, comprehensive training,
close-knit franchisee network, and ongoing
support. “The company provides tremendous
support. There are periods when I need them,
and others when I am doing great on my own.
They let me take the lead on the support I need
and respond in kind. And my franchise success
manager is a huge help!”
“Initially, I was concerned about getting the
word out about our services. When I reached out to
the local medical community—the doctors, nurse
practitioners, and physician assistants—to inform
their patients about us, business picked up.”
Allison estimates that as much as 75% of her
customers are Amish. Word-of-mouth referrals
within the community helped her build a thriving
operation. Her location has even been featured in
a local Amish news publication. “When my
daughter was diagnosed with autism, several of
my Amish customers helped my family transition
to a nutrient-dense, organic diet to help improve
her condition. This also inspired me to become a
certified health coach. Now I’m working toward
becoming a licensed naturopath!”
Today, Allison Kapalka’s daughter is about to
graduate high school. “When my daughter was
diagnosed with learning differences, I didn’t think
much about expanding the business. Now, the
idea of expanding is an option and something
I am really starting to think about!”
Brand Recognition
Starting a business from scratch takes time and
money. Franchises, on the other hand, provide
well-known services and products with
established customer bases already built in.
Be Your Own Boss
Franchise owners are in business for
themselves, but not by themselves. That’s
the advantage of being part of a large and
successful franchise system.
Proven Business Model
Franchising is a multi-billion dollar global industry,
and it shows no signs of slowing down. Why?
Because it’s proven to be a very successful
business model.
Proven Playbook
Let’s face it, starting any business is risky.
That being said, the risk is lower when
opening a franchise because you’re buying
into a time-tested business system.
ADVANTAGES
OF FRANCHISING
Buying Power
A network of franchises has the opportunity
to purchase goods at a deep discount by
buying in bulk. The franchisor can use the
size of its network to negotiate deals that
every franchisee benefits from. A lower cost
of goods lowers the overall operation costs
of the franchise.
Business Assistance
Franchises will share financial metrics, best
practices, and other proprietary information
to help you operate a more successful
business. FBR’s top-rated brands are
recognized for the outstanding support they
provide their franchisees.
Bigger Profits
In general, franchises see higher profits than
independently established businesses. Most
franchises have recognizable brands that
bring customers in droves. This often results
in higher profits for franchisees.
FEATURED FRANCHISEE
Ken Helmuth
Right at Home
Durham, Raleigh, and Charlotte, NC
Franchise owner since 2014 | 265 Employees
Ken Helmuth worked in healthcare sales,
sales management, and executive leadership
for Fortune 500 companies for 22 years
before acquiring his initial Right at Home
location in Durham, North Carolina, in 2014.
“I honestly believe it was divine intervention.
I wasn’t necessarily looking for a homecare
business or a franchise. But, I came across
this business opportunity at a time when
I was very unsatisfied with corporate
America. I was looking for a way to fulfill my
career aspirations with a job I ultimately had
control of—not vice versa.”
When he learned about the Right at
Home franchise opportunity, Ken quickly
realized it could fit him perfectly. “I knew
my healthcare leadership experience would
align with a homecare business. In addition,
I knew that the homecare market for older
adults is limitless. There’s ample opportunity
to assist and support this growing population
segment.”
“I’ve personally seen the emotional and
physical toll on family and friends after years
of caring for loved ones with Alzheimer’s
disease, cancer, or permanent disabilities.
My passion for serving others ultimately led
me to pursue the opportunity to purchase
the Right at Home office in Durham.”
“As I explored the franchise opportunity,
the most important thing to me was
understanding the business model and the
level of training and support provided by
the franchisor. I asked the Right at Home
corporate team what’s the most important
thing to achieving success, how they support
franchisees, and whether there are any
current legal issues with Right at Home. It
became clear to me that they support their
franchise owners. They are very focused on
franchisee success.”
“I also knew I was aligned with the
franchisor’s core values. Right at Home’s
mission is to improve the quality of life for
those they serve—clients, their families,
caregivers, and the community——the whole
system.”
Speaking with Right at Home franchisees
was an important part of Ken’s due
diligence. “I had plenty of questions! I asked
them about their day-to-day operations,
challenges, rewards, the biggest surprises
they discovered when they started out, what
advice they would give to a new owner, the
biggest mistakes they’ve made, and how they
overcame them.”
“Of course, there are challenges. Hiring
caregivers can be challenging in general. But
the Applicant Tracking System we use is one
of the best available. It’s outstanding. Finding
I knew that the home care market
for older adults is limitless. There’s
ample opportunity to assist and
support this growing population
segment.”
the right people to provide the right services
is critical to our mission. Right at Home
provides the tools we need to recruit in the
best possible way.”
“Also, knowing and staying on top of
state policies and procedures and working
with compliant vendors—are critical to our
success. The franchise does a great job of
vetting and recommending vendors for
all sorts of things we need to have. It’s an
immense help.”
“Right at Home most definitely values
franchisee feedback. I have been a part
of the Franchise Advisory Council (now
called the Strategic Leadership Counsel)
for the past five years. I’ve been exposed to
franchisee feedback, and I’ve seen how the
franchisor values and responds to it. I always
participate in the Franchisee Satisfaction
surveys, which provide the franchisor with
actionable feedback.”
“It’s always about the people we serve
and our dedicated team of caregivers and
office members who work tirelessly to care
for our clients and their families. We live
and breathe our mission every day, with the
goal of helping clients navigate their journey
in the comfort of their homes with dignity,
respect, and peace of mind.”
“I am most proud of the integrity of
our work and the number of clients we
help to age in place. I’m also proud of my
phenomenal employees who support our
clients and their families—Nearly 300
employees for three agency sites. Our team
members work so hard to stay true to our
mission and vision. I’m very proud of them.”
Ken is fully committed to making a
difference in the Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill
community by employing and developing
high-performing caregivers to care for the
Right at Home clients. He continually works
to expand his knowledge to better serve the
clients and families in the regions he and his
team serve.
“Put simply, our mission is to improve the
quality of life for those we serve. Of course,
we recognize that everyone’s idea of ‘quality
of life’ is different, which is why it’s so
important to us to make our clients and their
families an active part of each individualized
care plan. Aging or being diversely abled
is about more than just staying healthy,
safe, and independent. It’s also about living
well. We want every client to be in the
driver’s seat, regardless of any limitations or
challenges they may be facing.”
HomeWell Care Services
New Braunfels and San Antonio Texas
Franchise owner since 2021
45 Employees
A 30+ year sales and customer service veteran
of large corporations in both the medical device
and early education fields, Jeffrey Clark was
looking for an opportunity to own a family
business that he could operate with his sister,
Meredith. “I didn’t want to start over in the
corporate world at my age. I felt the need to do
something on my own with the idea that my
sister could play a key role.”
That destiny ended up being HomeWell Care
Services, a leading provider of in-home care
suited to meet the specific needs of a wide range
of clients. “I spoke with three franchisees and
shadowed a franchisee for four days. I wanted
to understand their initial experience but also
wanted to understand their day-to-day activities,
the opportunities, and challenges that came in
the first two years.”
After signing with HomeWell Care Services
in 2021, Clark was assigned his own franchise
business consultant to help guide him through
the launch of the business. Once again, the other
franchisees rallied to his side. “What’s nice about
HomeWell is that all of the owners across the
country are very open to sharing their ideas and
collaborating.”
Doing everything in their power to become
skilled, compassionate, and committed franchise
owners, their HomeWell Care Services business
quickly picked up momentum and began to
thrive. As positive online reviews began to
accrue, the number of caregiver referrals also
increased.
They have since purchased two additional
territories in the larger San Antonio market to
the south.
CAROLINE SWIFT
Cruise Planners
Laguna Niguel, CA
Franchise owner since 2021
1 Employee
Caroline Swift worked as a contractor for a local
travel agency but felt as if she weren’t allowed
to be herself or give it her all. That all changed
when she discovered Cruise Planners.
“Cruise Planners supports their franchisees.
Their technology is so advanced, and their CRM
is extremely robust. I was also impressed that
Cruise Planners is 100% female-owned and has
won numerous awards from Franchise Business
Review.” When she spoke with other franchisees,
it sealed the deal for her. “I asked about their
experience, home office support, using the
technology, and if they’d do it all over again.
Everything was positive.”
“The CARE Team is available to help with
any questions—about the CRM, accounting,
marketing, technology—everything! We also
have coaches that guide us and a very efficient
marketing team that creates beautiful mail and
digital pieces that are sent to my clients from
the home office on my behalf—saving me a
ton of time and resources! Their proprietary
CPSocial program curates and posts social
media messages on our behalf, prompting more
engagement and keeping us top-of-mind when
clients who want to book travel.”
Although she started her business while the
travel industry was still in recovery from the
global pandemic, charting her course and sticking
with it remains her proudest achievement to
date. “Perseverance, a lot of hard work, and a true
belief in myself and my abilities kept me going.
And I’m just getting started!”
ROBERT & CHRISTY
ANDREWS
HomeVestors of America
Knoxville, Tennessee
Franchise owners since September 2020
2 Employees
A chance meeting with a HomeVestors franchisee
turned Robert and Christy Andrews’ interest in
real estate into a passion to enter the real estate
market together. To say their due diligence was
thorough is an understatement. “We wanted
unbiased feedback from franchise owners—their
successes and failures, financial projections,
their first few years of business, what life looks
like as a HomeVestors franchise owner, how
many employees they had, how many houses
they purchased, if they were satisfied with the
support provided by the franchisor, and whether
they would choose to purchase a HomeVestors
franchise again,” Christy said. They officially
launched their Knoxville-based HomeVestors
franchise in September 2020.
What Robert and Christy truly love about
franchise ownership is the freedom and
flexibility that comes with being your own boss.
“Spending time together as a family is very
important to us, so finding an opportunity where
we had flexibility with our schedule was a must.
Initial startup cost and growth potential were
also important criteria for us. In addition, we very
much believe in doing things that have a positive
impact on our local community, and wanted an
opportunity that our children could be proud of.”
“We love that our investments have made
significant impacts on our local community, as we
revitalize neighborhoods, create jobs for people,
and provide quality housing options. Knoxville
is the city we call home, and we take pride in
knowing we’re making a positive difference in
this community.”
Storm Guard
Investment range: $185,400 – $221,600
Storm Guard is the most trusted name in roofing
Too often, building contractors act like “storm
chasers” – traveling to communities in need,
working for a short time, and leave. They are not
committed, local providers, leading to low-quality
work and price gouging. When they move on,
their customers are left without a warranty. As
importance of offering quality work at a fair
MARNIE PRINCE
Junk King
Tucson, Mesa, Phoenix, and Surprise AZ
Franchise owner since 2021
20 Employees
Marnie Prince spent nearly a decade in the
banking and finance industry which required her
to research different industries. One business
sector intrigued her—junk removal—became the
focus of her entrepreneurial pursuits. She wanted
a nationally recognized brand name, a concept
that stays current in the marketplace, and readily
available access to key performance indicators
(KPIs) to help her gauge her performance. She
asked the franchisor and franchisees many
tough questions, and Junk King won her over.
“To me, Junk King is more of a community than
a business venture—one that feels like family.
I also love the eco-friendly approach that Junk
King takes to junk removal. Discarded items are
not simply sent to the landfill. We carefully
inspect items that can be donated to one of the
many charitable organizations we work with.”
Marnie’s quick success enabled her to purchase
additional territories—making her a multi-unit
franchise owner. “Expansion was always part of
the master plan. I’ve always believed that growth
is necessary to ensure long-term success. Today
I have four locations and 20 amazing employees,
and I don’t plan on slowing down any time soon!”
There’s an acronym Marnie loves to share. “It’s
all about building a RICH business with Respect,
Integrity, Customer-Focus, and Having fun in the
process.” It’s this approach that’s helped Marnie
secure the respect and admiration of her
customers, many of whom have left glowing
reviews about her services. She’s earned
corporate awards for customer satisfaction, but
what she’s most proud of is having dozens of
5-star Google reviews online for others to see.
