Diploma in Technology<br />

<strong>The</strong> Diploma in Technology programme <strong>of</strong> the<br />

OUSL (along with the NDT, NDES and the<br />

HNDE programmes <strong>of</strong>fered by other<br />

institutions) is one <strong>of</strong> the main avenues to enter<br />

middle-level technical grades within the<br />

Engineering pr<strong>of</strong>ession. <strong>The</strong> entry qualification<br />

for the programme is having passed 3 subjects<br />

in GCE (A/L) mathematics stream, or obtained<br />

36 credits from foundation courses in<br />

technology. <strong>The</strong> minimum duration <strong>of</strong> the<br />

Diploma programme is three years and the<br />

medium <strong>of</strong> instruction is English.<br />

For the award <strong>of</strong> the Diploma in Technology, it<br />

is possible for a student to select any<br />

combination <strong>of</strong> courses meeting the<br />

requirements given in Table 04.<br />

However, particular combinations <strong>of</strong><br />

compulsory courses given in Table 05 will<br />

entitle the students to the Diploma, with<br />

specialisation in one <strong>of</strong> the following areas:<br />

Computer Engineering<br />

Electrical Engineering<br />

Electronic and Communication Engineering<br />

<strong>The</strong> Faculty expects a student who has been<br />

awarded the Diploma in Technology to be:<br />

Competent in the application <strong>of</strong> the wellknown<br />

principles <strong>of</strong> engineering<br />

technology,<br />

Aware <strong>of</strong> social, environmental and<br />

economic issues related to technology, and<br />

Self-motivated and capable <strong>of</strong> furthering<br />

career advancement.<br />

<strong>The</strong> courses selected for the award <strong>of</strong> the<br />

Diploma in Technology shall be so as to meet<br />

the minimum requirements in each category as<br />

shown below in Table 04. If the credits gained<br />

in any category exceed the maximum limit<br />

shown, only such maximum shall be used in<br />

computing the total credits. <strong>The</strong> credits gained<br />

in foundation level courses cannot be counted<br />

towards the award <strong>of</strong> the Diploma. <strong>The</strong><br />

complete list <strong>of</strong> courses, with Prerequisites, is<br />

given in the pages 33 - 37.<br />
