Bachelor of Technology (Engineering)
The Bachelor of Technology (Engineering) is
designed carefully, specifying minimum and
maximum limits for each category of courses, to
ensure that the programme is balanced, and
that it meets the requirements of major
Engineering Institutions, both in Sri Lanka and
overseas (e.g. Institution of Engineers, Sri
Lanka). The normal entry qualification to the
programme at level 3 is having 3 passes in the
mathematics stream in GCE (A/L) examination.
Lateral entry at higher level is possible with
higher qualifications (e.g. Diploma in
Technology, NDT, NDES, ect.).
The minimum duration of the Degree
programme, including the Diploma is five years
and the medium of instruction is English.
For the award of B Tech (Eng) Degree it is
possible for a student to select any combination
of courses meeting the requirements given in
Table 06. Particular combinations of
compulsory courses, as given in Table 07 will
entitle the students to the Degree in the
following specialised areas:

The Faculty expects a student who has been
awarded the Bachelor of Technology
(Engineering) degree to be able to:
Develop creative and analytical ability and
innovative thinking in Engineering
Address social, environmental and
economic issues related to Engineering
Access and utilise Engineering knowledge
to the benefit of the society.
The courses selected shall be so as to meet the
minimum requirements in each category as
shown in Table 06. If the credits gained in any
category exceed the maximum limit shown,
only such maximum shall be used in
computing the total credits. The credits gained
in foundation level courses cannot be counted
towards the award of the degree. The complete
list of courses, with Prerequisites, is given in the
pages 33 - 37.
