Spring 2012 In-Service <strong>Course</strong> Catalog<br />
This 32 hour course is designed to teach necessary skills and techniques to officers who are<br />
or may be assigned to dignitary protection operations. The course addresses all facets of a<br />
protective operation, including planning, execution and debriefing phases. Special attention<br />
is given to the safe management of any operation.<br />
It is strongly recommended that registrants have previously attended either the 8 hour or 16<br />
hour NEMRT Dignitary Protection classes.<br />
The course consists of a dynamic multi media classroom, followed by a series of hands on<br />
practical exercises which allow the participant to actively experience the concepts presented.<br />
Topics to be covered:<br />
- Protectice advance<br />
- Intelligence<br />
- Close protection concepts<br />
- Transportation<br />
- Location<br />
Participants are given the opportunity to apply the lessons learned in realistic, scenario based<br />
training operations.<br />
Upon completion, students will be able to:<br />
- Participate in small to large scale protective operations<br />
- Conduct an effective protective advance<br />
- Demonstrate various foot formations and methods for clearing obstacles<br />
- Demonstrate proper communications techniques<br />
- Plan and implement a protective movement<br />
- Describe common elements of an attack<br />
DEPARTMENTS ARE ASKED TO PROVIDE THEIR LARGER VEHICLE (i.e. 4 x 4'S,<br />
AND 4 DOOR VEHICLES, IF AVAILABLE) FOR CLASSROOM AND FIELD<br />
EXERCISES.<br />
Day 1 will be held at the Tinley Park Police Department, Days 2-4 will be held at the<br />
Illinois Medical District Facility, Chicago.<br />
This course will be taught by Investigator John Mack, and Jeff Padilla, both of the Illinois<br />
State Police.<br />
This course has been submitted to the Illinois Law Enforcement <strong>Training</strong> and Standards<br />
Board, Illinois Executive Institute for Terrorism Grant Funding. If funding becomes<br />
available, tuitions will be waived.<br />
**Cancellations for this class must be received 35 days in advance of the first day of class in<br />
order to avoid being billed.**<br />
