Exceptions will be noted where applicable. 40 Hour Mandatory Firearms Training Program PHY500R March 7,8,10,11,17,18, 2012 Des Plaines Police Department Firearms Range May 16,17,19,20,26,27, 2012 Wheaton Police Department Class meets from 6-10 pm the first two sessions, and from 8am- 4pm the remaining four sessions Member Tuition: $175.00 Non Member Tuition: $175.00 Limit: Unlimited 36 This state-certified, 40 hour program acquaints newly sworn or part-time officers with the physical, legal, and moral hazards associated with the use of firearms. The course provides specific safety rules for handling firearms. Through supervised practical exercises, officers will enhance their ability to use a firearm as a conditioned response. Successful completion of this course fulfills the requirements of 50 ILCS 710, “The Illinois Peace Officer Firearms Training Act”. Students must pass written and practical exams with a minimum score of 70% to receive a certificate of completion. In addition, each instructor must be completely satisfied with the abilities of the students to use their weapons in a safe manner. When enrolling a full or part-time Officer in this program, please do the following: 1. Provide him/her with a copy of the Participant's Information Sheet 2. Fax the following forms (found in the Registration Information section of this website) to NEMRT’s Registrar: Ms. Melinda Ray at (630) 896-4422: - Consent for Participation in 40 Hour Mandatory Firearms Training - A copy of the Officer's Form E. The original Form E must be on file in the offices of the Illinois Law Enforcement Training Standards Board - An Indemnification Agreement signed by your Chief or appropriate local official Agencies wishing to enroll Auxiliary Officers in this program are required to do the following: 1. Fax a copy of your local unit of government’s Enabling Ordinance for auxiliary officers to the Illinois Law Enforcement Training Standards Board at (217) 524-5350 so that they may review and approve your Auxiliary Officers’ eligibility to attend this training 2. Provide your Officer with a copy of the Participant’s Information Sheet 3. Fax the following forms (found in the Registration Information section of this website) to NEMRT Registrar: Ms. Melinda Ray at (630) 896-4422: - Consent for Participation in 40 Hour Mandatory Firearms Training - A copy of the Officer's Form E. The original Form E must be on file in the offices of the Illinois Law Enforcement Training Standards Board - An Indemnification Agreement signed by your Chief or appropriate local official All pre-registrations for this program must be accompanied by the forms listed above, especially the copy of your officer's Form E (as submitted to the Illinois Law Enforcement Training Standards Board). If NEMRT and the ILETSB do not receive these forms at least 7 business days before class, your officer(s) will not be allowed to attend the program. This is the strict policy of the Illinois Law Enforcement Training Standards Board. No exceptions are permitted. PLEASE NOTE: Pre-registration for this program will close 7 business days prior to the start of class to ensure that all necessary paperwork has been received by NEMRT and the ILETSB. Courses meet from 6 - 10p.m. on the first two sessions, then from 8a.m. to 4p.m. on the remaining four sessions. This course has been certified by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training Standards Board. Exceptions will be noted where applicable. 40 Hour PPCT Defensive Tactics Instructor Course TTT301R April 2-6, 2012 Elmhurst Police Department 08:00 AM to 04:00 PM Member Tuition: $35.00 Non Member Tuition: $500.00 Limit: 1 per Dept. Spring 2012 In-Service Course Catalog This course will certify officers to teach the PPCT Defensive Tactics Basic course to other officers at their respective departments. This well recognized national defensive tactics system for police is based on defensive tactic responses which take into account use of force parameters set forth by Illinois law. Throughout the course, officers will take part in hands on training, practice techniques, and teach others while learning themselves. Topics to be addressed include: - Use of force model - Pressure point control - Joint manipulation and pressure - Handcuffing techniques from various positions - Responding to violent attacks Participants need to wear proper workout clothes and bring their handcuffs and leather with them to class. Officers will be recertified through the PPCT System of Instruction. ** Cancellations for this program must be received by NEMRT 35 days prior to the start of the class in order to avoid being billed. This course will be taught by: Sergeant Robert Nicholas and Commander Michael Burroughs, both with the Elmhurst Police Department. 37
