Exceptions will be noted where applicable. 8 Week Basic Canine Officer Training PAT380R April 23 - June 15, 2012 Tops Dog Kennels Class meets from 10am-6pm April 23-May 11, and from 10am-9pm May 14-June 15 Member Tuition: $11565.00 Non Member Tuition: $11565.00 Limit: 1 per Dept. 38 At the conclusion of this extensive training program, participating departments will be able to employ a fully trained canine team as a compliment to their enforcement efforts. Prior to the start of class, twelve weeks of pre training have been conducted with German Shepherd police dogs pre selected by the highly regarded professionals at TOPS Kennels. Following initial training, police dogs and canine officers are brought together to ensure compatability and to complete the final eight weeks of the program as a team. Pre selection of each canine provides the following advantages: - Confirmation that the dog is suitable for police duties - Decreased likelihood of long range performance problems - More effective use of training time and expenses - Resolution of early compatability problems through replacement of the canine Canine teams must pass a variety of practical tests in the following areas: - Canine psychology - Obedience, agility, and article searching - Field area search and building tracking - 4th Amendment considerations and court testimony - Crowd control and handler protection - Pursuit and apprehension techniques - Drug detection, traffic stops, and gunfire - Footing obstacle course - Total distraction training All physical exams, shots, x-rays, and equipment are included in the tuition fee for the program. Three extensive notebooks and training logs are also provided. Agencies must provide appropriate transportation for their canines. All dogs may be submitted for certification by the North American Police Work Dog Association. This program has been certified by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board, and is also Illinois Department of Professional Regulation and U.S. Department of Justice Drug Enforcement certified. PLEASE NOTE: REGISTRATIONS FOR THIS PROGRAM MUST BE RECEIVED 12 WEEKS PRIOR TO THE FIRST DAY OF CLASS IN ORDER FOR CANINE PRE TRAINING TO BE COMPLETED. STUDENTS WILL NOT BE REGISTERED FOR THIS CLASS IF THEIR REQUESTS FALL OUTSIDE OF THIS 12 WEEK PERIOD. ** Cancellations for this program must be received by NEMRT 90 days prior to the start of the class in order to avoid being billed. Spring 2012 In-Service Course Catalog This training program is designed to meet the practical needs of uniformed patrol officers who have supervisory responsibilities and will challenge them to evaluate their leadership styles. The management of numerous patrol challenges will be discussed in a highly interactive setting with safe and proper response to situations being the main theme of this program. Patrol officers who serve as Officers in Charge, Field Training Officers, and newly appointed sergeants would all benefit from this program. This course will be taught by: Commander Brian Galske, Chicago Ridge Police Department. The detection, arrest, and subsequent prosecution of D.U.I. offenders continues to be a complex process, so much so that law enforcement officers need additional training and guidance. This program will provide officers with the supplemental skills necessary to perform optimally in their DUI enforcement roles. The 3 day National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) D.W.I. Detection and Standardized Field Sobriety Testing Training course provides a helpful background for students attending this course, but is not a mandatory prerequisite. Topics to be addressed include: - Key legal decisions regarding Illinois laws - Articulating suspicion - Caretaker liabilities and functions - Evidentiary concerns: breath, blood, urine - Non standardized field sobriety tests - Implied consent provisions - Common defenses challenges - Process review This course will be taught by: Officer Robert White, Carol Stream Police Department. 39
