Exceptions will be noted where applicable. 40 Hour Basic Evidence Technician Program (Du Page) INV091R May 14-18, 2012 Du Page County Sheriff's Department (On the first day of class, enter the building through the main Administration Entrance) 08:00 AM to 04:00 PM Member Tuition: None Non Member Tuition: $500.00 Limit: 2 per Dept. 40 Hour Basic Investigation Skills Program INV903R March 5-9, 2012 Northbrook Police Department 08:00 AM to 04:00 PM Member Tuition: None Non Member Tuition: $500.00 Limit: 2 per Dept. 26 This program is designed for recently assigned evidence technicians and will introduce them to various evidence location, documentation, preservation, and collection techniques. Students will learn to perform basic evidence tasks through a combination of lecture and practical exercises. Course topics include: - Crime scene management - Firearm and tool mark evidence - Evidence collection, preservation, packaging, and submission - Biohazard and cross contamination issues - Crime scene photography and videography - Documentation and recovery of impression evidence - Crime scene sketching - Latent print processing - Advances in evidence technology EACH STUDENT SHOULD BE FAMILIAR WITH HIS/HER DEPARTMENT'S 35 MM OR DIGITAL CAMERA AND SHOULD BRING THE FOLLOWING ITEMS TO CLASS: - 35mm or Digital camera - Manual for the camera - Memory card for digital camera - Latent print development kit - Sufficient packaging and personal protection supplies to process a crime scene This program is certified by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training Standards Board. It is not reimbursable by the ILETSB. This course will be taught by: Detective Jonathan Pugsley, Detective Michael Price, and Detective Kevin Farley, all with the Du Page County Sheriff's Department. This program has been designed to provide recently assigned criminal investigators with the basic skills needed to perform their duties. This course would also be of value to experienced patrol officers who have responsibility for conducting follow up investigations of minor crimes. Students will review the role of a criminal investigator during the investigative process and study practical and effective investigative techniques for personal and property crimes. Basic principles of effective crime scene management, interviews and interrogations, and technological investigative tools will be examined in detail. Additional topics include: - Search and seizure guidelines - Substantive law review - Identification procedures - Rules of evidence - Surveillance skills - Developing information resources - Involvement in investigative task forces This program has been certified by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training Standards Board. It is approved for certificate only, not for reimbursement. This course will be taught by: Detective Watch Commander Timothy Roberts and Chief of Police Frank Giammarese, both with the Bloomingdale Police Department; Mr. Earl Grinbarg, Cook County State's Attorney (Retired); and Mr. Patrick Morley, Cook County States Attorney. Spring 2012 In-Service Course Catalog This dynamic five day course has been designed to develop the investigative skills of officers assigned to drug cases. Students will receive in depth training that focuses on all facets of drug investigations. Course topics will include the following: - New generations of street drugs - Basic drug measurements and relative street prices - Drug law - Case development and investigative techniques - Developing and managing informants - Undercover operations - Report writing, asset forfeiture, and testifying in court - Surveillance operations and equipment - Troubleshooting current cases - Spirtuality and drug trafficking - Resource development This course has been certified by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training Standards Board for certificate only. This course will be taught by: Det. Robert Byrnes, South Chicago Heights Police Department; Detective Anthony Terranova, Glen Ellyn Police Department; Mr. Robert Fanter, D.E.A. Supervisor (Retired); and Mr. Patrick Morley, Cook Co. State’s Attorney. This one week course is designed for inexperienced telecommunicators and/or those who have not attended a basic telecommunicator course. The program provides instruction in the skills needed to receive and process emergency and non emergency calls and to dispatch police, fire, and emergency medical services appropriately. Emphasis is placed on student participation through role playing and simulation exercises. Course topics include: - Role and responsibility of the telecommunicator - Interpersonal communications - Call intake techniques - Call dispatch techniques - In progress/critical incidents - Overview of Fire/EMS dispatch terms & procedures - Technology in communications, including wireless 9 1 1 issues This program has been certified by the ILETSB, but is not reimbursable.
