SPRING MOUNTAIN YOUTH CAMP (SMYC)
SMYC is not a locked facility, but it is highly structured, similar to a military camp. Children
(Boys) are supervised at all times—but by "Probation Officers", not "guards." Technically, it
is not a detention facility but a probation facility. Youths are assigned to the camp as part of
their probation for criminal offenses. Typically, the first six months of their probation is
spent at Spring Mountain, followed by 6 months of traditional probation in Las Vegas.
