CASE STUDY 4 – SOMERFIELD STORES FRAMEWORK<br />
Introduction<br />
2.34 This case study illustrates how an informed and progressive client can work effectively<br />
with forward looking contractors and their supply chains.<br />
2.35 The Construction Procurement Team at Somerfield Stores had been set the challenge of<br />
dramatically reducing the costs of refurbishing existing stores. <strong>Interserve</strong> were one of<br />
Somerfield’s eight framework contractors asked to assist in reducing costs through its<br />
supply chain. The case study is based upon the consultant’s work supporting <strong>Interserve</strong><br />
in this task.<br />
The client’s collaborative working principles<br />
2.36 To support supply chain improvements Somerfield set out the type of culture it wished to<br />
develop with its supply chain members. This is based on a collaborative working model<br />
as shown in Figure 12.<br />
