Bath Killer Bees -v- Bath Spa Bulldogs
Bees 43 - 0 Bulldogs
After three consecutive cancelled
games due to the weather, the Bath
Killer Bees finally played their second
game of the season against first-year
team and local rivals the Bath Spa
Bulldogs.
The Bees got off to a quick start,
marching down a short field and
scoring on a 5 yard rush from Dan
Exell for his first career TD. On the
Bees’ next drive, Chris Jones managed
to hit the pylon before his knee hit
the ground on 4th down but the line
judge inexplicably didn’t give the TD,
leading to a facial expression from
Jones that could only be compared
to that of a dejected puppy. The 1st
quarter was otherwise uneventful, with
the challenging weather conditions
and some solid D neutralising both
offenses.
The game truly came alive in the 2nd
quarter, with a huge play on 4th and
goal from the Bulldogs 29 leading to
a Bees TD;Mike Hutchinson caught
the bomb from Aaron Linley for the
score. The strong Bees D shut down
the Bulldogs offense yet again, and
on the ensuing possession Chris Jones
finally got his TD with a 7 yard grab.
The Bees weren’t done yet though,
with rookie Alex Richardson taking his
first Bees catch 7 yards to the house
and Dan Exell getting his 2nd TD of
the day on an 11 yard run. The score at
half time was 30-0 to the Bees.
The 3rd quarter was an entirely more
frustrating affair, with the Bees offense
doing their best Plaxico Burress
impersonation by shooting themselves
in the foot with multiple penalties.
They did however manufacture one
solid drive, with rookie running back
Rob Hussey rushing for a 6 yard TD.
A very quick 4th quarter was much
of the same, with only a 4 yard Dom
Chao rushing TD adding to the score.
Mike Hutchinson also added his 1st
extra point of the game on this score,
on what was a woeful day for the
kicking unit! The final score was 43-0
to the Bees.
The Bees defense was extremely solid
all day long, with some huge hits
coming in from the linebacking corps
and some great pressure from the
D-line. Rookies Alex Reilly and Tom
Owen in particular had big days on the
stat sheet, limiting the Spa offense to
only one self-made first down in the
whole match.
Offensive MVP went to QB Aaron
Linley, who had an accurate and
composed game with a 102.7 passer
rating. Defensive MVP went to rookie
S “Have you met?” Toby Loxley,
whose 4 solo tackles were some of the
finest you will ever see in this league.
We would like to thank Bath Spa
for being great game hosts and
for providing a playable pitch in
challenging conditions, and also the
University of Bath Jets cheerleaders
who made the effort to come down
and support us, we would also like to
congratulate the cheerleaders on their
3 trophies at the Future Cheer Winter
Wonderland competition at Crystal
Palace. The Killer Bees are extremely
pleased to be going into the Christmas
break at 2-0 and without conceding a
point so far.
Predators -v- Knights
14th November 2011
Predators 6 - 20 Knights
The Varsity Bowl was played in
less than perfect conditions in a rain
affected field at Peffermill. The heavy
conditions saw a scoreless first half
as both teams struggles to adjust.
The deadlock was broken when Euan
Rennie threw a 12 yard TD pass
reception to Neale Lees in the corner
of the end zone.
The Predators conceded a further score
when QB and Punter Dan Cameron
was forced to guide an errant snap out
of the endzone.
A 4th quarter defensive Fumble
Recovery by Knights MVP Zak Divine
followed by a 2 pointer by James
‘Chad’ Grubb saw the Napier team
stretch to a 20 to zero lead.
A late rally by reserve Predators QB
Ben Edelshain saw a consolation
touchdown pass but Napier ended the
day with city bragging rights and their
first ever varsity crown.
