is unfamiliar. In the eyes <strong>of</strong> the threatened viewer,<br />
squeezed plums, glid<strong>in</strong>g over my model's collar<br />
bones, become blood; burst open guava<br />
between my mirrored blistered feet becomes raw<br />
ground beef; refractions <strong>in</strong> my grandfather's<br />
shav<strong>in</strong>g mirror become fragmented, dissected<br />
misogynous representations; <strong>in</strong> the viewer's<br />
imag<strong>in</strong>ations, women’s bodies are cut up. In<br />
reality, <strong>in</strong> my images, sk<strong>in</strong> is pulled, pushed,<br />
spread, compressed and bunched up. I do not<br />
deny the violence, the flesh violation, <strong>in</strong>trusion.<br />
But, it is my own body that is crav<strong>in</strong>g and<br />
demand<strong>in</strong>g these relationships; my own body as<br />

cont<strong>in</strong>ual becom<strong>in</strong>g, as <strong>in</strong>habit<strong>in</strong>g and reviv<strong>in</strong>g<br />
the tension between life and death, between Eros<br />
and Thanatos. My own body as meat.<br />
In a similar ve<strong>in</strong>, “Bellmer<br />
depicted the body as an<br />
amalgamation <strong>of</strong> the organic<br />
and <strong>in</strong>organic, [the liv<strong>in</strong>g and<br />
the dead], transgress<strong>in</strong>g its<br />
normative limits to <strong>in</strong>corporate<br />
aspecsts <strong>of</strong> its environment. He<br />
fantasized the body as a series<br />
<strong>of</strong> shift<strong>in</strong>g, <strong>in</strong>terchangeable
