Spirit Rally loses the spirit of Lowell

The Spirit Rally has always
been a nondescript event here
at Lowell, Lowellites rrom each
class went out to the football
field to cap off a week of fun
and spirit, a rally round the flag
of dear old LowelL There was
even a little mystery. Who
would win thecontest for most
spirit? Would tteprincipaldismiss
dassas tradition dictated,
or would he send the spirithappy
students back to clam?
The suspense ended already
thisvear.
The new "special schedule"
(designed by the S Ab and the
representatives of the faculty
council and the administration)
starts the rally after mods
16-17 with mods 18-20 canceled.
In past Spirit WeeVf students
showed their spirit by
coming to the rally, hoping beyond
hope that the rally would
cancel put the last mods of the
day. Otherstudents would ait
the,7iHy, putting their faith in
the principal to do th* right
thing.
Whatever the spirit may be,
this rally always had something
special about it. No mat-
ter how dumb il was if you
were there or how dumb you
thought it was if you weren't
there; it was still theSpirit Rally.
This new schedule strips the
rally of its appeal It's just another
rally. No reason t > guat

again.

The serious effort to obtain
the San Francisco Giants by a
St Petersburg based group has
brought out the true feeling of
thetltyand its people. Apathy
reigns. San Francisco just
doesn't care about the Giants
like they care about the'gtamour
team of the city, the Forty-
