Report and Annual Statement of Accounts 2011-2012 a) A full time gardener has been appointed to ensure that the Church premises are maintained “Clean, green, and plastic-free”. b) Under the label, “Bible Garden”, about 25 plants mentioned in the Bible are cultivated in our compound. Other rare plants are also part of the Church’s collection. c) The waste products in the Church compound are buried or burned in the compound itself. d) We have decided to utilize rain water harvesting techniques in our Church premises. Area Prayer Groups The Church has 12 Area Prayer Groups spread over the City and its suburbs. There are about 70 families on an average in each Prayer Group. Cottage prayers, House visits, Visit to the sick, Annual get-togethers, Picnics, etc. are some of the activities of these groups. This year every Group conducted the Christmas Carol Rounds very successfully. The Area Prayer Groups are led by senior Achens and the Area Prayer Conveners. Raju Jacob (from June 2011) Rev. Sumod C. Cherian (from June 2011) Vice President : Mr. Jacob Thomas Secretary : Mr. Thomas Jacob Treasurer : Mr. T.V. Jacob Internal Auditor : Mr. Saji Sam George The functioning of the Old Age Home was satisfactory during the year of report. The Church committee in its meeting dated 13.2.2012 decided to organize the City Hospital Guidance Centre under the City Mission Project initially in the Old Age Home after retaining the ground floor for the present aged inmates. The procedures are in progress. Upasabhas (Outstations) The Upasabhas of Christ Church are Immanuel CSI Church Muttathara, St. Lukes CSI Church, Karali, and St. Johns CSI Church, Mudavanmughal. Senior Achens help the Vicars in conducting the divine services in these churches. Mr. Baby Markose is the Church Worker of Muttathara and Mudavanmughal churches. Mr. E. J. Jose is the Church Worker of Karali church. Please see Section B for details of timings of divine service in these churches. 86 87
Report and Annual Statement of Accounts 2011-2012 Welfare of Staff The Christ Church committee maintained very cordial relationship with the Church employees. Their salary was due for revision on 01-4-2012 after the previous revision five years ago. A revision, taking into account the present cost of living has been worked out and finalized. Their travelling allowance was already revised during the year. Gifts and presents on special occasions, medical and loan facilities for emergent needs are also considered. Mr. Samlal, who worked as gardener resigned due to sickness. Considering his financial backwardness and the requirements of his children’s education, the Church undertook a collection drive among parishioners. From the amount collected, an amount of Rs. 3 lakhs has been deposited in FD with the bank and the remaining is credited to his SB A/c. The interest accrued on the FD is credited to the SB A/c on a monthly basis. Pastorate Committee This committee coordinates various activities of the Upasabhas with Christ Church. Mrs. Omana Abraham is the secretary of the committee. During the year there were two meetings of the committee which deliberated on the activities to be undertaken during the year. Vicars Rev. Raju Jacob Achen and Rev. Sumod C. Cherian Achen are in the ministry from the year 1990 and 1998 respectively. Their services became available to the Church from May 2011. They are giving strong leadership to the progressive activities of the Church. Our sincere thanks to them and we wish the very best in the years to come. Report and Annual Statement of Accounts 2011-2012 Church Committee The committee is totally involved in the wellbeing of the church and its activities. During the year it had regular monthly meetings and two special meetings. I thank everyone in the committee for the creative thinking, deliberations and support. Staff All staff members are dedicated to the needs and deeds of the church and are faithful in the areas to which they are deployed. We express our sincere thanks to them. Conclusion God Almighty expects the growth of the Church, a growth embedded in mutual trust and cooperation. This precisely is the foundation of Christianity. Let the growth of this Church be in His blessing, knowledge and ministry in mutual trust. The obligations of the Church to the society is very high. Our resources are immense and it should be appropriately utilized. We are the oldest church in the city and hence we have the responsibility to be a guide for others. If we carefully plan and deploy our expertise and resources, we will be in the forefront in the Diocese and among other churches in the city. Let us therefore march forward for building up His Glory with one accord. We express our sincere thanks to the congregations in general, Church Organizations, Achens, committee members, area prayer convenors, staff and all upasabha workers.
