Growers are advised to take suitable precautions to ensure freedom from pathogens during all production and marketing processes. 26 MICROGREENS MICROGREENS MICROGREENS OR MICROLEAF Microgreens are the nutritious seedlings of vegetables and herbs grown as a speciality product for gourmet salads. Particularly popular with chefs for their visual impact and incredible flavours, they are also becoming more sought after for home cooking, and good potential for local production and distribution. Microgreen or microleaf is harvested at a very young and tender stage in the growing process, usually at cotyledon or first true leaf stage, with production times from 7 to 21 days. Crop hygiene and climate are therefore critical and production systems have evolved using sterile mats or perlite in trays or on glasshouse benching. Our new ‘GrowFelt’ medium is specifically designed for microgreen production to enable uniform moisture distribution with good root production. GROWFELT GROWING MEDIA GrowFelt White: • A cellulose based growing media suitable for the propagation of ‘Greens’, including Sprouts, Microleaf, Microherbs,Teenie Greens and Babyleaf. • User friendly, convenient, no mess and lightweight.
