DAPHNE ODORA 'ALBA' - Similar to D. odora<br />

'Aureomarginata' but doesn't have the yellow margin on the<br />

leaves. Flowers are snow white and just as fragrant as the<br />

species. 1 gal. $20.00<br />

D. ODORA 'AUREOMARGINATA' - To most people<br />

the best fragrance of any shrub. The small purple and white<br />

flowers appear in February - April and the scent can be noticed<br />

20 feet away. Makes an evergreen shrub with golden<br />

margins on the foliage. Can be kept in a large container.<br />

D. ODORA 'MAE JIMA'. A Japanese selection of this<br />

standard of northwest landscapes. D. o. 'Mae Jima' has the<br />

same coloring and margins of D. o. 'Aureo Marginata', but the<br />

margins are drastically wider. This daphne will bloom as<br />

much as D. o. aureo marginata, but will be much more striking<br />

year round. We haven't seen this daphne listed before so get<br />

this new plant for you garden. 1 gal. $ 37.00<br />

D. RETUSA - This shrub is a very rigid, little gnome of<br />

a plant. The fat short stems grow slowly into an 18" rounded<br />

shrublet. The flowers are sweetly scented and are purple<br />

outside and white inside. Needs good drainage and plenty of<br />

light. Since D. retusa is slow growing the plants for sale are<br />

small. 1 gal. $ 15.00<br />

D. ROSETTII - (D. cneorum X D laureola, subsp.<br />

philippi). Found in 1927, this natural hybrid comes from<br />

Pyrenees. The reddish flowers are rarely produced but the<br />

rounded dwarf form makes D. rosettii worth growing.<br />

DAVIDIA<br />

D. INVOLUCRATA 'COLUMNARIUS'. This dove<br />

tree is a rather narrow grower. The foliage is typical dove<br />

tree, but the plant stays very coumnar. We don't know how<br />

soon these plants will take to bloom but being grafted they will<br />

ususally bloom at a younger age than seed grown plants.<br />

D. INVOLUCRATA 'SONOMA' - This flowering dove<br />

tree came from Sonoma Horticultural <strong>Nursery</strong>. The original<br />

tree had exceptional bracts and luckily the owners got it out<br />

into the nursery business. Bracts are 8-10" long and the<br />

grafted plants will bloom at 18 inches tall. Any of the plants<br />

we are selling can bloom next May. Because of the grafting<br />

and scarcity these plants are limited and high priced<br />

DESFONTAINEA SPINOSA - Has holly leaves that<br />

everyone asks, "What holly is that?" In the mid summer<br />

orange-red flowers with yellow flares appear among the<br />

leaves. This plant makes an interesting shrub for the container<br />

or in the garden in warmer areas (California, Oregon coast).<br />

DEUTZIA<br />

D. 'CHARDONNAY PEARLS' - (D. gracilis 'Duncan'<br />

PPAF). This new Canadian import has bright lime yellow<br />

foliage all spring and summer. This 3-4' shrub will have pure<br />

white flowers which show up well against the greenish yellow<br />

foliage. 1 gal. $ 14.00<br />

D. CORYMBOSA' - Has pinkish buds and white flowers<br />

in May-June. This six foot plant is covered with these<br />

beautiful flowers. 1 gal. $ 14.00<br />

D. 'NIKKO' - A dwarf deutzia that only gets to 18" tall<br />

and 36" across. The dark green foliage gets covered by<br />

thousands of of white flowers. This easy to grow plant is very<br />

adaptable to sun, light and shade and is hardy.<br />

DICHORA FIBRIFUGA - This hydrangea relative has<br />

small bright blue flowers in mid summer. The flowers don't<br />

have sterile floret like hydrangeas. The flowers are followed<br />

by shiny blue fruit in the fall. We have two forms available:<br />

UBC (University of British Columbia) form is low growing<br />

with brilliant blue fruitt 5 gal. $ 40.00<br />

Dichora versicolor has a broader leaf and much larger size<br />

than the UBC for. Both are lovely plants.<br />

DIERAMA PULCHERRIMUM- A small growing (12")<br />

species with grassy foliage. The flowers are on nodding stems<br />

with deep reddish pink flowers. 3" $ 5.00<br />

DISANTHUS CERCIDIFOLIUS - This is a superb 12'-15'<br />

shrub grown for its stunning purple, red, and orange fall color.<br />

The heavily veined foliage is very dark green and leathery<br />

during summer and in late August starts turning purple and all<br />

through the fall just keeps getting better. Disanthus<br />

cercidifolius is a member of the hamamelis family and has<br />

very small, deep maroon flowers in fall. Has been hardy to at<br />

least -20° F. in Illinois. See Michael Dirr's "Manual of Woody<br />

Landscape Plants". Disanthus is one of his favorites.<br />

DISPORUM 'NIGHT HERON'. Will get 5-6' tall and has<br />

deep purple new growth in spring. The flowers are small<br />

white bells in mid spring. D. 'Hight Heron' is a good<br />

companion plant in the woodland garden with ferns and<br />

hostas. In fall, the foliage will turn a soft peachy yellow<br />

before going beneath the soil for winter.<br />

DISTYLIUM<br />

D. MYRICOIDES - Larger for us than D. racemosum.<br />

The flowers are also red and look like Parrotia persica flowers.<br />

DRIMYS<br />

D. LANCEOLATA - This Chilian native has small lanceshaped<br />

dark evergreen leaves. The dark foliage is highlighted<br />

by the purple-red stems. Plants we've seen are only 6-8' tall,<br />

but may get bigger. We grow as a handsome container plant.<br />

Plants in Eugene have survived in the ground for many years<br />

in more protected areas than in our garden. Flowers are small<br />

and white but make a nice show on the plant.<br />

D. LANCEOLATA 'SUZETTE' is just like D.<br />

lanceolata with its deep green leaves, dark purple stems, and<br />

white flowers. The only difference is that the dark green<br />

leaves are splashed with cream and pink year round D.<br />

lancelata 'Suzette' will make a pretty and interesting tub<br />

specimen. 1 gal $24.00<br />

DRYOPTERIS<br />

D. CYCADIANA - Although from China, Japan and<br />

Thailand, the books say this fern is very hardy. As the name<br />

implies the foliage looks somewhat like a cycad. Needs well<br />

drained soil in the shade 1 gal. $ 14.00
