MAGNOLIA 'BURNCOOSE' - Has some of the most
incredible flowers of any magnolia. First saw this plant at the
Magnolia Society tour of Dr. Corbin's garden in Portland, OR.
The flowers are 10-12 inches across and look like Magnolia
'Caerhays Belle', but are several shades darker.
1 gal. $ 60.00
MAGNOLIA 'BUTTERFLIES' - The deepest golden
yellow magnolia we've seen yet. M. 'Butterflies' is one of the
Phil Savage's hybrids. The flowers are small but bloom before
the foliage leafs out. 1 gal. $ 60.00
MAGNOLIA 'CAERHAYS BELLE' - Probably still our
favorite large flowering hybrid. M. 'Caerhays Belle' is a
hybrid of M. sargentiana 'Robusta' X M. sprengeri 'Diva'
crossed and named at Caerhays Castle in Cornwall, England.
The large, cup-shaped flowers are the richest pink imaginable.
M. 'Caerhays Belle' can grow 3-4' a year into a 30-40' tree.
The first flowers can be on an 8' tree.
1 gal. $ 55.00
2 gal. $ 65.00
MAGNOLIA CAMPBELLII 'HENDRICKS PARK'
Hendricks Park is our local rhododendron garden in Eugene
that was started in the early 50's by the local Rhododendron
Chapter. There have always been rhododendrons and other
plants, but in the last several years the plantings have been
diversified. We encourage you to come see the park if in the
area. M. 'Hendricks Park' has 10-12 inch wide rich pink
flowers on a 40-50 foot tree. Only hardy in mild areas.
1 gal. $ 75.00
MAGNOLIA CAMPBELLII 'KEW'S SURPRISE' This
nice pink campbellii has the classic cup and saucer form that
the species should have. This hybrid of M. campbellii and M.
campbellii 'Mollicomata' was made by C.P. Raffill at Kew.
1 gal. $ 65.00
MAGNOLIA 'CORAL LAKE' - This hybrid is a fast grower
that is very upright. The flowers are light pink with a touch of
peachy orange. The hardy plant is a great addition to the color
range in magnolias. 1 gal. $ 40.00
MAGNOLIA 'DAVID CLULOW' - This Gresham hybrid is
thought to be M. lennei 'Alba' x veitchii 'Rubra'. The flowers
are large cup and saucer shaped in late March. This hybrid
was named by Ken Durio. 1 gal. $ 50.00
2 gal. $ 60.00
MAGNOLIA DAWSONIANA 'CLARKE' - One of our
own named magnolias. We have grown M. dawsoniana
'Clarke' since the early 1960's. Our plant originally came from
the Clarke Nursery, San Jose, CA. The flower buds are
medium pink fading to light pink. and look like cattlyea
orchids in the tree. M. dawsoniana 'Clarke' is generally agreed
to be the finest cultivar of M. dawsoniana available.
2 gal. $ 60.00
MAGNOLIA 'DAYBREAK'- M. 'Woodsman X 'Tina
Durio'- One of August Kehr's best hybrids. It's wild to think
that M. 'Woodsman' with its purple green and yellowish color
could produce this lovely deep pink hybrid. This quick grower
will grow well in many parts of the country.
2 gal. $ 60.00
17
MAGNOLIA DENUDATA 'PURPLE EYE' - Actually not
an eye in the center of the flower, but it has purple blush at the
base of all the tepals. The plant seems to be broader growing
than the species. The flowers look just like M. denudata but
M. 'Purple Eye' is considered to be a hybrid.
1 gal. $ 50.00
MAGNOLIA 'ELIZABETH' - We are still amazed at the
sales of this yellow magnolia. We have sold M. 'Elizabeth'
for 25 years. This is still one of the finest of any yellow
magnolias. 2 gal. $ 50.00
MAGNOLIA 'ERIC SAVILL' - This sprengeri 'Diva'
seedling is a fast upright grower. The flowers have wine red
flowers in March. Named in 1982, by John Bond for the
creator of Savill Garden in Windsor Great Park.
2 gal. $ 60.00
MAGNOLIA 'FORREST PINK' - Formerly grown as
M. denudata 'Forrest Pink' and now believed to be a hybrid.
We find the pink flowers very beautiful and also very frost
resistant when open. We have seen frosts down to 26-28° F.
with only minor damage. 5 gal. $ 50.00
MAGNOLIA 'GALAXY' - One of the finest magnolias to
grow throughout the country. We have sent plants to Southern
California as well as Chicago, IL. M. Galaxy is a National
Arboretum hybrid that we've been growing since 1973. The
upright growth is wonderful for a patio or as a street tree. The
purple flowers appear in mid-late March and litterally cover
the plant. Our tree has be in our garden for 11 years and is
now 20' fall and 10' wide. 1 gal. $ 18.00
MAGNOLIA 'GOLD STAR' - This hybrid has the multiple
tepals of stellata and the soft yellow color from M. acuminata.
This small tree has flowers in late March for a fairly extended
time. The foliage is very dark green with burgundy new
growth. 1 gal. $ 50.00
MAGNOLIA 'GOLDEN GALA' is an upright grower
with medium to dark yellow flowers in March-April. The
flowers appear before the foliage.
1 gal. $ 60.00
EVERGREEN MAGNOLIAS
M. GRANDIFLORA -
'D. D. BLANCHARD' has some of the best indumentum
under the leaves. When you get the young plant there won't be
any indumentum, but within a couple of years the deep brown
indumentum will show up. The flowers are the typical creamy
white in summer. 1 ga. $ 25.00
'EDITH BOGUE' - This is the hardiest grandiflora we
grow. We had thought hardiness was the main reason to grow
it. The overall plant is very bushy and full with narrow leaves
that are dark green with light tomentum. 'Edith Bogue' also
seems to withstand our wet snows better than most
grandifloras. M. 'Edith Bogue' just gets more beautiful each
year. 1 gal. $ 20.00
'RUSSET' - Originally named in the '60's by the Saratoga
Horticultural Foundation. Seems to be less brittle to snow
than some others. M. g. 'Russet' has survived unscathed by
-12° F. 2 gal. $ 25.00
