NEWS new MBi selector grapples from inmalo Inmalo, the sole UK importer for MBI excavator attachments for over 15 years, has announced a new and improved range of selector grapples for the waste management and demolition industries. The new MBI selector grapple range is designed for all waste handling, transfer station and site clearance operations. MBI (Mantovanibenne) has a continuing product development programme which constantly refines and enhances their comprehensive range. These latest additions, which Inmalo has available from stock, offer improved power, performance and capacities and a longer working life. Suitable for carrier excavators and materials handlers of between 3.5-70 tonnes operating weight, the new selector grapple range offers numerous improvements for the recycling and demolition specialist. Ranging from 300kgs to 3900kgs attachment weight and 60-1700 litres load volume, the new features include greater capacity by weight, reduced cost by carrier machine size and punch plate jaws for optimum power-to-weight ratio. Darby groundworks expands its Doosan fleet A Basildon based groundworks contractor has discovered the benefits of Doosan reduced tailswing excavators following the purchase of a pair of 14 tonne DX140LCR models from local dealer Promac Solutions. Darby Groundworks currently operates a fleet of 40 excavators together with nearly 60 dumptrucks, rollers and 14 April 2011 All components are manufactured from hard-wearing 400 Brinel material and the grapples feature telehandlers. The excavators range in size from 1.5 to 22 tonne of which all 14 of its over 13 tonne machines are from Doosan and in constant use on sites throughout SE England. Commenting on the new Doosan units, Darby’s plant/transport manager Robbie Gough said: “When we wanted some new 14 tonners, the only ones available from Promac’s stock were reduced tailswing units and, to be honest, we were initially a little concerned about their stability in use.” Once the machines had been put to work, any fears “everyone’s talking about it!” a secure pin retention system and 360° dampened hydraulic rotation for longer motor life. over their performance were quickly dispelled. “Not only has rear end damage been virtually eliminated,” continued Mr. Gough, “But compared with all the other makes of reduced tailswing machines we’ve tried in the past, the Doosan models are far better balanced, even when lifting steel reinforcement cages or concrete skips.” In fact, so effective have been the two new diggers that Mr. Gough has recently placed an order for a second pair of machines in order to help cope with an increasing level of activity. The DX140LCR, which is powered by a fuel-efficient Cummins common rail engine developing 71 kw (95 hp) @ just 1900 rpm, has a maximum digging reach and depth of 8.68 and 6 m respectively and a swing radius that is 33% less than the standard version – a protrusion of only 135 mm over the 700 mm wide tracks chosen by Darby.
