The house was built in 1920 and presents a<br />

m<strong>on</strong>ument of wooden architecture. In two<br />

halls artistic exhibiti<strong>on</strong>s, planairs, <strong>the</strong>matic<br />

events regularly take place. The House of<br />

Artists is a centre of Jurmala department<br />

of <strong>Latvian</strong> Artists’ Uni<strong>on</strong>, that includes<br />

60 professi<strong>on</strong>al artists and students. Also<br />

a studio of weaving craft is located in this<br />

house.<br />

A house where famous poetess Aspazija<br />

spent last 10 years of her life it is located in<br />

<strong>the</strong> narrowest place of Jurmala – in Dubulti,<br />

where is narrow spit of 320 metres dividing<br />

<strong>the</strong> river and <strong>the</strong> sea. The house is built in 1903<br />

and is a unique sample of wooden architecture.<br />

In 1996 House of Aspazija was open for visitors<br />

as a memorial site of <strong>the</strong> poetess.<br />

Museum offers also permanent expositi<strong>on</strong><br />

“Life and work of Aspazija from 1933 to<br />

1943”; a paedogocial programme “Aspazija<br />

and <strong>the</strong> ink” is offered for junior grades.<br />

New married couples are invited to have<br />

<strong>the</strong>ir first joint cup of coffee in a living room<br />

of Aspazija, and enjoy historical interior of<br />

<strong>the</strong> room. It is possible to rent premises for<br />

workshops and events.<br />

A m<strong>on</strong>ument to Aspazija has been recently<br />

settled in <strong>the</strong> garden.<br />

Museum was renovated in 2004 and also<br />

offers to have a rest in a cosy café, look into a<br />

souvenir shop and explore several exhibiti<strong>on</strong><br />

halls.<br />

Since 2008 <strong>the</strong> museum offers permanent<br />

expositi<strong>on</strong> “History of Rigas Jurmala and<br />

Ķemeri resorts”. The expositi<strong>on</strong> shows<br />

important milest<strong>on</strong>es of city’s development:<br />

photos, documents and household objects.<br />

Visual digital expositi<strong>on</strong> helps to feel <strong>the</strong><br />

spirit of different centuries in <strong>the</strong> resort life<br />

through <strong>the</strong> documental short-films and<br />

music.<br />

In h<strong>on</strong>our of <strong>the</strong> museum’s 50-year anniversary,<br />

in May 2012 a new exhibiti<strong>on</strong> “Resort<br />

fashi<strong>on</strong>” will be opened here. The exhibiti<strong>on</strong><br />

will present museum collecti<strong>on</strong> of clo<strong>the</strong>s,<br />

swimmimg suites, accessories, photos and<br />

fashi<strong>on</strong> magazines, that will introduce traditi<strong>on</strong>s<br />

of resort life in 19 – 20 centuries.<br />

In a summer cottage that was built in <strong>the</strong><br />

end of <strong>the</strong> 19th century Rainis and Aspazija<br />

lived from 1927 till <strong>the</strong> death of poet in<br />

1929. In museum <strong>the</strong>re is pers<strong>on</strong>al library,<br />

memorial rooms with original interior, as<br />

well as documental videos about <strong>the</strong> life of<br />

poets.<br />

The museum offers guided excursi<strong>on</strong>s,<br />

educati<strong>on</strong>al programs and dem<strong>on</strong>strati<strong>on</strong> of<br />

documental short films in <strong>Latvian</strong>, Russian<br />

and English, as well as a guided bicycle<br />

tour visiting all <strong>the</strong> life places of Rainis and<br />

Aspazija.<br />

Art gallery exposes interesting and original<br />

exhibiti<strong>on</strong> of works that are made in a unique<br />

technique (fluorescent painting effect) –<br />

works start to glitter in a special light, and<br />

a new picture is exposed to a viewer - a<br />

picture that was hidden under <strong>the</strong> first work.<br />

Studio offers art <strong>the</strong>rapy, studio of meditative<br />

painting where you can make your own
