Commenting at the conclusion of the November Foal and Yearling
Sales, Goffs Chief Executive Henry Beeby said, “The Goffs November
Foal Sale represents all that is best about Irish breeding and has enjoyed
another very strong sale that has witnessed sustained demand for a
catalogue of real quality.
“Last year we witnessed some truly incredible scenes when we sold
the first foals by the Irish Legend Sea The Stars. The top three prices
of €850,000 and €800,000 (twice) proved to Europe’s highest priced
foals by some margin and so it was always unlikely that such prices
would be matched this year. If you extract those three from the sale
this week’s statistics all show improvement whilst, crucially, today’s
median price advanced by 17% and the whole sale median is within
€1,000 even allowing for their inclusion. That tells us that the market
has continued to grow for foals at Goffs as we catalogued 120 more
foals this week and added an additional day due to customer demand.
Indeed the sales key statistics are all ahead of 2010 and this is a sale
that is improving all the time from the bottom up.”
