Petra Höcker:
in search of
clues

Artist Petra Höcker, born in 1966,
lives and works in Osnabrück.
Her artistic career describes an arc
from her beginnings as an advertising
artist, to trying out various design
possibilities, to free-lance work at the
Osnabrück art gallery in the field of
exhibition design, up to attending
seminars held by Professor Klaus
Neuper in Nuremberg. Since 2002,
Petra Höcker has been a free-lance
artist and now has a presence in a
large number of German cities and
European countries thanks to her
many exhibitions.
Christel Schulte, independent curator
in Osnabrück says, “Petra Höcker
interprets the forms she encounters
and replaces them with shapeless,
furrowed materials pushed together
with brush and spatula and worked
over again and again like paste. In
the process, she takes her inspiration
from the reality surrounding her:
traces of marks in sand, archaic cave
paintings, brittle masonry and fossils.
Petra Höcker searches for a powerful,
expressive language and finds it
in a combination of colored priming
of spirited materiality and graphic
figures. This artist is interested in a
searching and finding process marked
by inventive forms and compositions,
while at the same time unmistakably
growing out of an artistic, expressive
language.”
