Improving quality
through qualification
Another way in which we assure and improve
quality – and naturally also motivate
employees – is by offering standardised further
training and development courses for
our skilled personnel. As no provisions were
in place for this, the occupational medicine
department at EnBW lobbied the Association
of German Business and Company Doctors
for a suitable solution. The specialist
designation of "Occupational Medicine Assistant"
was then created in the autumn of
2008. In November 2008, the first person to
be awarded this certificate was in fact a
female employee of our occupational medicine
department.
Put to the test
At the beginning of 2009, the concrete
preparations began for the auditing of the
occupational medicine department together
with all the external offices by the
Gesellschaft für Qualitätssicherung in der
betriebsärztlichen Betreuung mbH quality
assurance company. Following wide-ranging
on-site audits in May and July, the occupational
medicine department was then certified
in August 2009 without any reservations
whatsoever. This further underlines
the fact that this department also provides
a measurably and assured high level of standardised
medical services for the EnBW
employees in its care. In the words of the
external auditor: "Overall, the audit showed
the existence of high-quality occupational
medicine services complete with a wide
range of special campaigns and a highly
employee-focused concept, with the result
that the granting of the seal of approval is
recommended without restriction."
The work safety manual documenting and
outlining the organisation of work safety
practices at EnBW and all the relevant measures
was successfully audited back in 2007
and will be submitted for recertification in
2010.
From fire protection to
protective clothing
In the year under review, the work safety
department was expanded and upgraded to
form the "work safety and preventive fire
protection unit". Alongside the development
of the necessary fire protection regulations
for the EnBW Group, its main activities
in 2008 included further long-term
projects such as the hazardous substances
manual and the whitelist for hazardous substances,
the management of weatherproof
and protective workwear or the auditing of
electrical operating equipment in line with
the "BGV A3" rules of the employers' accident
insurance association.
