Information and communication
EnBW has been working together with
schools and other educational institutions
in Baden-Württemberg for more than 30
years now. All the various activities are designed
to fit in with the teaching curricula;
they are coordinated with the relevant
school authorities, who also handle all the
official application processes. The information
services we provide are designed to
support teaching staff at general education
schools as well as kindergarten carers and
students undergoing teacher training. The
information formats range from presentations
and hands-on workshops all the way
through to trips lasting one or more days
and focusing on energy-related topics. We
also do everything we can to ensure that
the activities we organise for children and
youths are as target group-specific as possible:
we try to appeal to the interests of preschool
children by employing the services
of an "adventure instructor", for example,
and by encouraging them to take part in
"energy-charged experiments" on site. We
also stage events where school pupils attending
secondary level can become "energy
detectives"; we invite them to tour a
power plant or a drinking water works, or we
54
motivate them to become involved in the
"Class!" media project that we have been organising
together with the Südkurier newspaper
since 2008.
The "Youth Thinks the Future" management
game we staged up to 2008 called for maximum
creativity over a period of five days.
This initiative was designed to encourage
young people to think about key issues and
to incorporate today's youth in the dialogue
about our common future. The "Energy
Stimuli" competition pursues similar objectives.
We have been organising this competition
annually since 2005 to find Baden-
Württemberg's most impressive "Energy
School Class" and "Energy Family".
In addition, our info centres are also open to
members of the public who are interested
in energy-related topics: whether it be the
nuclear power plants in Philippsburg, at the
Gemeinschaftskraftwerk Neckarwestheim
or in Obrigheim, at the hydroelectric power
plants in Forbach and Iffezheim, the coalfired
power plant in Altbach/Deizisau or the
Stuttgart-Münster heat-and-power plant. In
2008, well over 60,000 people took the opportunity
to visit one of our facilities.
Recognition for outstanding
volunteer work
In 2008, we sponsored the special award in
the "Echt gut! Ehrenamt in Baden-Württemberg!”
competition (Thumbs Up for Voluntary
Work in Baden-Wurttemberg) for the
fifth time. The winners were chosen in January
2009, and the cash prizes went to three
promotion and self-help associations in
Heilbronn, Calw and Ludwigsburg.
