MARTIJN DE JONG<br />

Awarded just once every four<br />

years, the prestigious Johannes<br />

Cornelis Ruigrok Prize – bestowed<br />

by the Royal Holland Society <strong>of</strong><br />

Sciences and Humanities to the<br />

most talented young researcher<br />

in the field <strong>of</strong> Economic Sciences<br />

– has been conferred upon Dr<br />

Martijn de Jong <strong>of</strong> the Marketing<br />

<strong>Management</strong> department.<br />

De Jong’s work on the crossnational<br />

analysis <strong>of</strong> consumer<br />

research, which applies methods<br />

from psychometrics to large<br />

databases, taking into account<br />

worldwide cultural differences<br />

that might influence measuring<br />

preferences <strong>of</strong> consumers, was<br />

described as innovative by the<br />

award panel.<br />

Further, the awarding panel<br />

states that De Jong introduces<br />

new statistical methods relevant<br />

not just for marketing purposes,<br />

but also for use by politicologists,<br />

psychologists and other scientists<br />

doing international research on<br />

attitude and preference.<br />

NEW WEBSITE<br />

The Innovation and Co-Creation<br />

Lab recently celebrated the launch<br />

<strong>of</strong> the lab’s newly developed<br />

website - www.icclab.com. The<br />

launch is just one <strong>of</strong> a series<br />

<strong>of</strong> important achievements by<br />

the lab, which now employs 17<br />

people, since its creation 18<br />

months ago.<br />

A.T. KEARNEY GLOBAL PRIZE FOR MBA STUDENTS<br />

Designed to present students with real-life business<br />

challenges, the A.T. Kearney Global Prize pits business<br />

school against business school in a competition that <strong>of</strong>fers<br />

participants the opportunity use all their skills and experience<br />

and taste what it’s like to be a management consultant.<br />

Having taken on all comers in the European<br />

Round, the RSM team – comprised <strong>of</strong> MBA10<br />

students Gagandeep Sethi and Sri-Hari<br />

Krishnan from India, Team Captain Lothar<br />

Vormittag from Germany, and Romanian<br />

Daniel Simion – went head-to-head against<br />

the winners <strong>of</strong> the American Round, the<br />

Ross <strong>School</strong> <strong>of</strong> Business (University<br />

<strong>of</strong> Michigan).<br />

In the competition, MBA students were<br />

challenged to tackle business cases based<br />

on actual A.T. Kearney client engagement.<br />

The RSM team were presented with the<br />

challenge <strong>of</strong> developing a growth strategy<br />

for a global supplier to the wind power<br />

industry.<br />

Students had the opportunity to interact with<br />

A.T. Kearney consultants who took on the<br />

roles <strong>of</strong> clients in simulations and, as well<br />

as providing feedback, shared their insights<br />

on the consulting process.<br />

Matthias Rucker, RSM MBA graduate and<br />

associate at A.T. Kearney is the RSM school<br />

coordinator for the competition and was very<br />

impressed by the RSM team. He added that<br />

the objective <strong>of</strong> the competition was to give<br />

the best possible insights into the work <strong>of</strong><br />

an A.T. Kearney consultant and how they<br />

solve strategic management issues, as well<br />

as to help supplementing important skills.<br />

“We won one <strong>of</strong> the most prestigious<br />

consulting competitions in the world - a<br />

fantastic job by an extraordinary team,” said<br />

Daniel Simion.<br />

Commenting on the level <strong>of</strong> team interaction<br />

Gagandeep said, “This was a perfect example<br />

<strong>of</strong> unity in diversity.” Lothar agreed that the<br />

value <strong>of</strong> their diversity strengthened their<br />

force as a team. “We all brought different<br />

experiences and backgrounds to the team<br />

with the unifying factor that we are all from<br />

RSM. Our diverse perspectives culminated<br />

in a well thought-out team approach,” he<br />

said. Gagandeep concluded: “Our win<br />

confirms that RSM is right up t<strong>here</strong> with the<br />

best <strong>of</strong> them.”<br />

Programme Director, commented on the<br />

team’s achievement by saying that, “the<br />

result in this competition is a showcase for<br />

RSM talent. These students exemplify the<br />

RSM commitment to diversity, team work<br />

and excellence.”<br />

George Yip, Dean <strong>of</strong> RSM, adds: “This is a<br />

really fantastic achievement. Our students<br />

have done this against some <strong>of</strong> the best<br />

competition in the world. The contest is a<br />

great experience for those who have strong<br />

motivation for strategic consulting, and our<br />

team has shown to be a very good match.<br />

RSM is extremely proud <strong>of</strong> them.”<br />
