In the last issue of "dialog" you spoke about a large<br />
series of objectives, set by the sht management staff<br />
for their future work. Generally this involves further<br />
intensifi ed development of the market and a continuously<br />
consistent growth strategy. How does the situation<br />
look today in the individual business segments?<br />
A discussion with Rui Macedo and Ulrich von Hahn.<br />
Rui Macedo: "Traditionally we have focused highly on cement<br />
in the silo branch. It is well known that this industry is<br />
subject to major seasonal variations. We can no longer accept<br />
annual dips in turnover of the magnitude experienced<br />
during the past winter. Moreover we are receiving less and<br />
less for our services considering the performance, reliability<br />
and fl exibility we offer. The competition in this sector<br />
is ruinous. The price is placed over the quality. We can be<br />
replaced, when the only requirement is moving cement<br />
from A to B. With the acquisitions started in other market<br />
segments we can continue to grow and optimize our fl ow<br />
of goods. To eliminate any misunderstandings: The cement<br />
industry is and will remain an important customer and<br />
partner for sht; however we cannot presently use it as the<br />
sole base for our economic existence. That is why our goal<br />
of extending our clientele and product portfolio has top<br />
priority."<br />
Ulrich von Hahn: “In the quest for growth, it is important<br />
for us to keep our balance. Our intention is to continue to<br />
grow with our regular customers, while also acquiring new<br />
customers. But it is important for us to put the absolute<br />
focus for these processes on quality and sustainability and<br />
not simply on quick growth.
