on the year including two against Texas Tech.<br />

HIGH SCHOOL: Coached by Ronnie Thompson at Memorial High School in Port Arthur ...<br />

earned first-team All-District (21-5A) honors as both a junior (2007) and senior (2008) … as<br />

a junior tallied 60 tackles, intercepted four passes and broke up 16 more opponent aerials<br />

… as a senior recorded 60 tackles and broke up 14 passes … voted team MVP as a senior<br />

… track standout led his 4x200 meter relay team to the regional track meet as a junior.<br />

PErSONAL: Desmond Gardiner is the son John Gardiner and Charlene Davison ... born<br />

all-area and all-state selection as a senior, leading the Scots to the district title and the<br />

state championship game ... totaled 1,400 yards and 22 touchdowns as a senior ... racked<br />

up 800 yards and seven scores as a junior ... a two-time all-state selection in baseball ... off<br />

on 200 carries to become the first A&M player since 2003 to reach the millennium mark<br />

... after splitting time during the first six games of the regular season stepped up after an<br />

injury to Christine Michael to be one of the country’s best running backs in the second<br />

half of the season ... started the final seven games of the season, averaging 134.0 yards<br />

per game during the stretch with seven consecutive 100+ yard rushing games ... clinched<br />

a fourth quarter comeback win over FIU with a 40-yard TD run … topped the century mark<br />

touchdowns on 28 carries at Baylor ... helped the <strong>Aggie</strong>s defeat No. 8 Nebraska with 137<br />

yards on 26 carries ... in the regular season finale at Texas, ran for a season-best 223 yards<br />

and a pair of touchdowns ... Following the Texas win, honored as Big 12 Offensive Player of<br />

the Week and honorable mention Running Back of the Week honors from College Football<br />

Performance Awards … gained 100 yards on 20 carries against LSU in the Cotton Bowl.<br />

2009 (soPhomore): An honorable mention All-Big 12 selection by the league’s head<br />

coaches ... has started nine games in the backfield and appeared in all 12 ... is A&M’s<br />

second-leading rusher on the season (752 yards) and leads the team with three 100-yard<br />

games ... went for 107 on 14 carries against Baylor (11/21) ... took a kickoff back 99 yards<br />

for a score at Colorado (11/7) and was subsequently named Big 12 Special Teams Player<br />

of the Week ... posted second-straight 100-yard effort with 119 yards on 21 carries in win<br />

over Iowa State (10/31), while catching a TD pass ... registered first career 100-yard game<br />

in win at Texas Tech (10/24), rushing for 131 yards on 25 carries ... scored four TDs in the<br />

game (3 rush, 1 rec), doubling his career total ... ran for a then career-best 99 yards on 19<br />

carries in 56-19 win over UAB (9/26).<br />

2008 (Freshman): Played primarily running back but also saw time as a slot receiver<br />

and took snaps at quarterback … carried the ball 75 times for 363 yards (4.8 average per<br />

carry) … also caught 10 passes for 60 yards … set a Texas A&M record with 1,169 kickoff<br />

return yards, including a 98-yard return for a touchdown against Oklahoma … had three<br />

kick returns of 60+ yards … notched 100-plus all-purpose yards in nine of the <strong>Aggie</strong>s’ 12<br />

games … led the team and set a Texas A&M freshman record with 1,592 all-purpose yards<br />

including 294 against Oklahoma … was named Big 12 Special Teams Player of the Week<br />

for his efforts against the Sooners … earned second-team All Big 12 honors from the San<br />

Antonio Express-News.<br />

HIGH SCHOOL: His senior campaign garnered Honorable Mention 5A All-State quarterback<br />

honors from both The Associated Press and the Texas Sports Writer’s Association … as a<br />

junior, he was named to the Texas Sports Writer’s Association All-State Second Team as<br />

a kick returner and Third Team as a running back … named to The Dallas Morning News<br />

first-team all-area team as a utility back … member of Dave Campbell’s Texas Football<br />

Super Team (2nd Team UTIL) … as a senior, Gray rushed for 1,975 yards and 28 touchdowns<br />

… during his award winning junior campaign ran for 1,482 yards and 31 touchdowns<br />

while also hauling in 38 passes for 436 yards and two more scores … accounted for 67<br />

total touchdowns during his junior and senior campaigns … best game of his prep career<br />

came against Abilene in the third round of the playoffs when he ran for 256 yards and five<br />

touchdowns … coached by Dave Meadows at DeSoto HS.<br />
