position … saw action in eight games … had a career-high two tackles against Stephen F.<br />

Austin … had a memorable sack of mobile Baylor quarterback Robert Griffin in the <strong>Aggie</strong>s’<br />

win.<br />

2009 (FrESHMAN): Appeared in one game, the <strong>Aggie</strong>s’ win over UAB (9/26) ... had the<br />

honor of wearing the prestigious “12th Man” jersey in the game ... did not record a tackle.<br />

HIGH SCHOOL: Coached by Ken Gray and Shoemaker High School in Killeen ... an honorable<br />

mention all-state selection as a junior (2008) by the Texas Sports Writers Association ...<br />

threw for 2,150 yards and 22 touchdowns, while gaining 513 yards on the ground ... missed<br />

the 2009 football season due to injury ... chose Texas A&M over offers from Purdue and<br />

Houston.<br />

PErSONAL: Jameill Showers (pronounced jah-MEAL) is the son of Shauna and James<br />

Showers of Killeen, Texas … born September 6, 1991 ... construction science major.<br />

2010 (Junior): Important backup at cornerback as a junior … contributed 16 tackles,<br />

including 10 solo hits, while seeing action in all 13 games … made an interception against<br />

FIU that he returned 13 yards and led to an <strong>Aggie</strong> field goal … also broke up a pass and<br />

forced a fumble (vs. OSU) … made a crucial third down stop with a hard hit of a Baylor<br />

receiver with A&M clinging to a 35-30 lead.<br />

2009 (soPhomore): Appeared in all 13 games, primarily on special teams ... saw a<br />

fair amount of action as the <strong>Aggie</strong>s’ kick returner, gaining 385 yards on 18 returns (21.4<br />

average) ... had a season-high 153 return yards against Arkansas (10/3) ... also a top special<br />

teams defender, finished the season with 13 tackles ... ranked second on the special-teams<br />

coverage squad with 10 tackles on kickoffs or punts ... season high stops was three at<br />

Colorado (11/7) ... shifted from defensive back to wide receiver during spring drills and<br />

showed the ability to make plays.<br />

2008 (Freshman): Saw his first career action in the season opener against Arkansas<br />

State.<br />

2007: Redshirted.<br />

HIGH SCHOOL: Playing defensive back for the first time, Smith earned second-team<br />

all-district honors at the position at Bellaire High School … as a sophomore (2004) at St.<br />

Bernard High School in Louisiana, Smith was the starter at quarterback in an option attack<br />

and he led his team to the playoffs for the first time in a decade … rated the No. 91 safety<br />

in the nation by Scout.com … All-Region by PrepStar … coached by Marshall Law at Bellaire<br />

High School.<br />

PErSONAL: Lionel Ervin Smith is the son of Lionel and Darleen Smith … born August 18,<br />

1987 … agricultural leadership and development major.<br />
