TCP in Wireless Networks<br />

● Theoretically the transport layer protocol should be independent of lower<br />

layers<br />

● But TCP is optimized for wired networks<br />

● TCP assumes that packet loss is due to congestion in the network<br />

● In wireless networks packet loss occurs due to the medium<br />

● Thus, performance of TCP in wireless networks is poor<br />

● Many approaches to solve the performance problem<br />

● Indirect TCP (as an example)<br />

● The end-to-end connection is broken in two parts<br />
