Katerina Cook
N’amgis/Squamish
Katerina loves to play soccer and dance, and she intends to pursue both of
these interests when she finds a better job and works in the next year.
Her favourite teacher is Lia Shannon, her dance teacher, as she has been in
Lia’s class every semester for the past four years. Katerina is proud of
being on the honour roll, and is looking forward to getting her dad’s
Hamatsa and making him and his family feel proud while doing his dance.
She would like to thank Mrs. Warrender, Emma Milliken, her dance
teachers Lia Shannon and Lynn Crust, and most of all her friends, for their
support and encouragement. Katerina’s role model is her gran, Karen Cook,
because she is strong, wise, caring, and she encourages her to get through
everything, even in the hardest moments, she is always there for her. Kat
recommends that other students “Keep up with your work, studies,
homework – don’t give up even if it’s hard, do your best; you’ll still get good
marks and experience for trying your best.”
Woolode Gorup-Edwards
Coast Salish/Mi’kmaq
Woolode’s favourite teacher has been her Grade 10 Math teacher Ms.
Shypitka because she explains math better than anyone else. Her
future plans are to attend Pearson College and then go to medical school
to become a family doctor. Her hobbies and interests are golf and
volunteering at the Victoria General Hospital. Woolode would like to
acknowledge and thank her mom, Souie Gorup for all her support and
encouragement; she would have not done half the things she has without
her. Her role model is her brother, Wegadesk because he is a hard
worker, has so much to pursue, is very knowledgeable and always thinks
outside the box. Her advice to fellow students, “When you work hard at
things, you get them!”
