Violet’s Pride Scholarship
Violet’s Pride Scholarship was started by Aaron Aubin, Nicole Hajash, and Darcy Aubin, who are of
Kwagiulth and French Canadian descent and are all graduates of Mt. Douglas High School. They are
sponsoring this scholarship in memory of their grandmother, Violet Duncan. Violet was a member of the
Campbell River Indian Band. She valued education and encouraged all of her twenty-one grandchildren to
finish high school and pursue post-secondary education.
Gordon Lesage, Victoria High School
Gordy is a student at Victoria High school and has Métis Ancestry. He is a very good student despite years
of living with diabetes. For many years, Gordy struggled with the medical condition and was in and out of
hospitals trying to manage this disease. When he was well enough, he attended school and stayed involved
with friends and school activities. Despite his health adversity, he has done tremendously well and plans on
attending post-secondary school to study computer programming and video design. We wish him all the best
in his future endeavors. Congratulations, Gordy!
Judy Bourne Memorial Scholarships
The Judy Bourne Memorial Scholarships are awarded in recognition of Judy Bourne, an inspirational woman
of Cree Ancestry. Judy was a devoted wife and mother of six children. She was well known for her athletic
and coaching abilities, particularly as a nationally and internationally recognized volleyball coach. The Judy
Bourne Memorial Scholarships recognize students who demonstrate good scholastic ability, community
involvement, and leadership abilities.
Woolode Gorup-Edwards, Spectrum Community School
Woolode is a student at Spectrum Community School and is a member of the Nanoose First Nations. She is
an academically strong student and a gifted athlete. She has been involved in leadership and environmental
groups at her high school and volunteers in her community. Woolode plans on attending post-secondary
school in the fall and has been accepted into Camosun College. She would like to pursue studies in philosophy
and/or medicine. Congratulations, Woolode and all the best in your future studies!
