Surge protection for photovoltaic systems
Lightning and surge protection
for photovoltaic systems
Class I and II lightning and overvoltage protection
Weidmüller‘s surge protection type PU I protects low-voltage consumer
installations and electronic devices against direct lightning effects and
overvoltages that can occur through atmospheric discharges (thunderstorms)
or by switching operations (transients).
The PU I- and II-series meet the requirements of Class I and II
in accordance with IEC 61643-1:2008 and the type 1 and type 2
comply with EN 61643-1.
Function indication, maintenance and homologations
The PU II surge protection modules are provided with an optical control.
The indicator is controlled by a thermal disconnection unit. If this unit has
“answered”, there is no protection, so the colour of the indicator changes
from green to red. A qualified person can replace the inoperative arrester
without disconnecting the wiring. The pluggable varistor modules are coded
in compliance with their voltage. Thus it is only possible to plug a suitable
replacement varistor.
Pluggable and codable protection elements
Easy and safe exchange due to coded modules
High leakage current
High energy absorption with l max : 40 kA (8/20 μm) and Uoc:
6 kV with short response time.
High pulse currents with I Imp up to a maximum of
30 kA (10/350 μs).
