1.2. Modulator B<strong>and</strong>width<br />
<strong>The</strong> oominal b<strong>and</strong>widths are 15 MHz for normal <strong>and</strong> 30 MHz for extended modes. Measurements<br />
show that <strong>the</strong> normal b<strong>and</strong>width is always ei<strong>the</strong>r 14.130 or 14.803 (<strong>the</strong> difference between <strong>the</strong>se two<br />
values is <strong>the</strong> spacing between measurements during <strong>the</strong> modulator calibration in which <strong>the</strong> b<strong>and</strong>width is<br />
determined). <strong>The</strong> extended b<strong>and</strong>width, by contrast, varies considerably between instruments, Table 3.<br />

1.3. Scale Factor<br />
<strong>The</strong> frequency <strong>of</strong> each instrument is measured by <strong>Kern</strong> (L&a) in Switzerl<strong>and</strong> prior to shipping, <strong>and</strong><br />
tbe result is shipped with <strong>the</strong> instrument in <strong>the</strong> form <strong>of</strong> a calibration certificate. This calibration consists<br />
<strong>of</strong> a single measurement at c. 480 MHz. At <strong>SLAC</strong> a more comprehensive set <strong>of</strong> frequency measurements<br />
