5 Contents /syllabus Many useful development projects in the South can
only be realized with external funding. However, in
order to obtain such funding, an insider view of the
functioning, the preferences and the conditions of
possible funding and their institutions is advisable, if
not indispensable. Project proposals need to follow
certain rules, fit within the financial portfolio of different
programmes and pass through a number of set
approval stages.
The course will embrace an analytical typology of
donor agencies, deal with criteria for application and
approval of project proposals, provide training in
project proposal writing, explain the typical structure
for project application, and provide information on the
average funding volume for various type of
development projects.
6 Learning outcomes At the end of the module, students will be able to:
� write a good project proposal
� indicate at least 3 potential funding agencies for a
given project type
� tell the necessary approval procedure and its
corresponding time lags
