International cooperation skills 3 Name of course Project finance and flow of project funds 4 Course instructor Prof. Dr. Karl Kluegel, Politechnic Zürich Prof. Dr. Dietmar Wiegand, TU Vienna 5 Contents /syllabus Urban development projects typically move large sums of money around – sometimes (especially in the context of international co-operation) between countries and continents. Usually, different funding agencies are involved, banks charge differential fees and grant different interest rates, if at all. Idle ‘parking’ and mal-management of funds must be avoided, accounting must be transparent and correct. In some cases it will be necessary to employ (and supervise) an accountant, in others just an auditor. A basic knowledge of these conditions and practices is needed for experts writing project proposals and work in team leader positions. The necessary expertise is being taught in this module. Topics include, among others, project budgeting, project budget programming, basket funding, micro credits, business plans. 6 Learning outcomes After completion of this module the students should � be familiar with typical cost forecasting and fund administration techniques � practices for low of development project funds � know the specific terminology used in project finance procedures � be able to (conduct or) contribute ideas in financial negotiations with bankers and project partners 2.6.3 Page 1
